XR Device Calibration and Automation Senior Engineer – XR Systems Integration and Test

General Summary:

Qualcomm is taking its traditional strengths in digital wireless technologies in exciting new fields such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR).

The XR Systems Test and Integration team builds and tests prototype systems for these technologies. Team members will interact closely with systems engineers and software developers beginning with concept reviews and following through system implementation, tuning, testing, and demos. The calibration and automation area involves working with devices to figure out how to calibrate its sensors through manual and automated processes. Certain of these processes will need to be developed in house and others will be integrated. Candidates should be flexible in their work assignments as priorities can change quickly in this fast-paced environment.

The XR Device Calibration and Automation Engineer must have a good understanding of Augmented/Virtual Reality and general computer vision enabling technologies. Candidates must be able to understand calibration intrinsic and extrinsic characterization for various sensors such as cameras, IMUs, ToF, eye-tracking, optics and display. Candidates must also be able to write automation for infrastructure to automate such calibrations. Candidates must also be knowledgeable of measurement equipment for optics and display calibration.

Required Skills:

Experience with Augmented/Virtual Reality and general computer vision enabling technologies and devicesExperience with verification and optimization of real-time computer vision systems including at least one of the following: (Visual inertial systems, SLAM, Depth from stereo, or 2D and 3D natural feature detection and tracking)Understanding of sensor calibration techniques for cameras, IMUs, ToF, eye-tracking, optics and displays.Automation scripting will be required for enabling repeated validation through automated equipmentKnowledge of Android debugging and use of ADB tools4+ years of industry experience is required.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with optics and displays on XR devicesAutomation of robot arm equipment and other control infrastructureRobotics programming

Minimum Qualifications:

•    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

*Works in the lab, can use hazardous chemicals (e.g., glue, machinery).

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:

$148,300.00 - $222,500.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted.
