The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at the University at Albany serves all of the college's academic units. The program is jointly sponsored by New York State, the Office of Special Programs, and the University at Albany. The objective of EOP is to see that each student admitted is provided with all the services and assistance necessary for success in the degree program in which he or she is enrolled. The ultimate goal of the program is to make higher education possible for students who lack the normal credentials for college admissions, but who have the potential and motivation for academic success.
The EOP lecturer will be administratively responsible to the EOP director and will work closely with other EOP instructors, counselors, and program staff. The EOP lecturer will be assigned to teach in the fall and spring semesters. This person must be able to work effectively with college students who are economically and educationally disadvantaged individuals.

Primary Responsibilities:
+ Teach 2 sections each semester of EOP high-intensity model courses that meet 4-5 days per week
+ Assume responsibility for implementing the instructional goals of the EOP high-intensity model
+ Contribute to curriculum revisions and syllabus construction
+ Ensure that EOP students receive the necessary competencies in a particular academic area
+ Assume responsibility for maintaining accurate and complete records of student performance
+ Advocate for non-traditional/EOP college students
+ Conduct one-on-one and group conferences for study skills purposes
+ Participate in professional activities
+ Participate in scheduled staff meetings
+ Create and maintain channels of referral for academically underperforming students
+ Provide student progress recommendations to the EOP director
Job Requirements:
+ Have extensive experience in teaching college students
+ Have a strong commitment to working with economically/educationally disadvantaged students
+ Demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role
+ Have the sensitivity to motivate low income/first generation college students
+ Be able to use computer technology in the classroom
+ Be able to assess student needs (pre-and post-assessment)
+ Be available for extended office hours to offer one-on-one tutoring
+ Be able to effectively communicate with other EOP instructors and counselors
+ Be available to teach courses during the 5-week pre-freshman summer program
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
+ A M.A. or M.F.A. in English, creative writing, or closely related discipline from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by May 30, 2025. Candidates who will not hold the degree by this date will not be considered.
+ Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
+ Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging, relative to their role.
+ Applicants must have extensive experience in teaching undergraduate college students.
+ Applicants must address their commitment to working with economically and educationally disadvantaged students and ability to motivate first generation college students.
+ Applicants must have experience with use of computer technology in the classroom and Student Information Systems (ex. EAB).
+ Applicants must be able to assess student needs using pre-and post-assessments.
+ Applicants must be available to hold extended office hours to offer one-on-one tutoring.
+ Applicants must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with other EOP Instructors and EOP Counselors, the EOP Director and campus stakeholders.
+ Must be able to teach courses during the 5 week pre-freshman summer program.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Doctorate Degree preferred in the English field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
+ Three or more years teaching undergraduate English courses
+ Experience with curriculum development

Professional Rank and Salary Range: 10 Month Lecturer, Salary commensurate with experience
