Position Summary
Select high school rising seniors on the path to a medical career may apply to enter the Spartanburg Regional Health Care System’s Work-Based Learning Co-Op. These students will work alongside PCAs or CNAs in the healthcare environment to learn foundational skills that can transfer to various healthcare fields. Work-based Learning (WBL) combines classroom-based education with on-the-job training experiences to help students prepare for or explore their work-site objectives. Students selected into this program will have the opportunity to practice critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills while working alongside highly skilled medical professionals. This experience must be planned and supervised by the school and employer so that it contributes to the student’s education and employability. Orientation into this role will be required. Efforts will be made to place students at an SRHS Campus close to their school/home.
Minimum Requirements
Eligible to enter Work-based Learning co-op program at Career Center in the Upstate of SC Demonstrated commitment to enter CNA program at Career Center in the Upstate of SC Remain in good standing with home high school and Career Center Maintain competent or higher ratings on performance evaluations Complete hospital training within designated timeframe Timeframe for orientation: 3 days max (potentially on Saturdays), hospital orientation completed virtually while on school grounds

Core Job Responsibilities
Assists patients with activities of daily living in a safe, timely and courteous manner Assists PCA/CNA with personal hygiene care with respect to privacy, dignity and needs of the patient Delivers meals/snacks and water in a timely manner upon patient’s request Assists with vital signs, weights/heights, intakes and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested under supervision of PCA/CNA Identifies areas for improvement and seeks ways to work on self-defined weaknesses Remains committed to unit, department and division goals Reports risk management concerns to appropriate person Adheres to proper chain of command Observes bedside Shift Report with PCA/CNA Demonstrate exceptional customer service and professionalism in all patient and family interactions Welcome all patients and visitors to unit upon admission Orient patient to room including how to use television, call light, room lights, window coverings, temperature settings, bed settings, and phone to maximize comfort and satisfaction Deliver ice, snacks, and supplements per patient request under the direction of clinical personnel Provide patient distraction and companionship under the direction of licensed personnel (Excludes a level 1 patient.) Assist staff to maintain cleanliness of environment including kitchenette, nursing station, break areas, utility room, hallways, and alcoves Stock and/or organize supplies and equipment Round on patients hourly and assist or elevate needs to appropriate personnel Dispose of excess linen according to facility policy and procedures Execute hand hygiene audits as directed by Charge Nurse or Nurse Leader Run errands, answer unit telephone, answer and respond to call lights Retrieve meal trays after mealtime is complete and report amount consumed to PCA for accurate documentation Accompany independently ambulating patients, requiring no interventions or assistance, in hallway Follows Infection Control Procedures
