Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation: Starting pay rate of $20.90, actual wage will be adjusted based on experience.
Benefits: Full-time, seasonal position eligible for a season pass for employee/dependents and privileges at several other resorts. Several discount programs (i.e. food & beverage, retail/rental, tickets, etc.) also available.
Job Summary:
The Grooming Hill Chief is responsible for maintaining snow on ski trails using specialized grooming equipment, with a focus on difficult terrain. This role includes overseeing and training a team of 5 to 15 groomers, coordinating grooming activities, and ensuring the finished product meets resort standards. The Grooming Hill Chief also assumes the responsibilities of the shift supervisor in their absence.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
Inspect grooming equipment at the start and finish of each shift to ensure proper functioning
Groom assigned ski trails, overseeing and assisting with grooming operations, including monitoring of snow quality and quantity
Provide on hill supervision to junior groomers
Assist grooming supervisor in planning and assigning grooming tasks for the shift
Perform regular equipment maintenance tasks, including checking fluid levels, bolts, belts, crossbars, track tension, etc.
Change equipment as necessary during the shift
Conduct or assist with minor equipment repairs: assist junior groomers as needed
Prepare daily driver's logs and/or reports on grooming activities
Develop and enforce sound safety procedures, conducting safety meetings in the supervisor’s absence
Ensure driver's logs for section are complete and accurate
Take part in departmental research and development of grooming activities and snow characteristics
Coordinate grooming activities with other hill chiefs and departments, such as snowmaking and lifts, especially for tasks like winching or training
Assist with planning summer projects, like trail maintenance and construction
Provide superior service to both internal and external customers, adhering to Resort Etiquette Guidelines
Respond to guests in a courteous, efficient manner
Perform other tasks as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
High school education or equivalent, plus 3+ years previous grooming experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired
Valid driver’s license
Must be at least 18 years of age
Ability to sit for extended periods while operating snow grooming equipment
Willing to work overnight shifts
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Previous experience operating heavy equipment desirable
Strong communication skills, particularly using two-way radio
