Wholesale Credit Risk - Associate

Join our Credit Risk team to identify, measure, limit, manage, and monitor credit risk across our diverse business operations. As part of Corporate Risk Management, we maintain independence and integrity in decision-making, reporting directly to the firm’s Chief Risk Officer (CRO). As a Credit Risk - Associate in the Commercial & Investment Bank (CIB) Wholesale Credit Risk team, you will be responsible for diligence, risk grading, structuring, and ongoing monitoring of a diverse and complex portfolio of risks. You will manage high-grade and leveraged loans, asset-based structured financing, extensive derivatives and securities trading relationships, and intra-day liquidity facilities. You will serve as the Credit Officer and primary contact for credit relationships, while also mentoring junior team members.

Job responsibilities

Manage lending activities and trading-related credit exposures with Japan-based companies, including their overseas subsidiaries across the Corporates and Financial Institution sectors Conduct customer due diligence and financial analysis, summarizing findings in written credit approval memos and reviews Review and approve trading activity, recommending margin requirements and structural enhancements Develop and recommend structural solutions to mitigate risk on structured financings, performing cash flow analysis under stressed scenarios Set and communicate credit exposure appetite across trading products using internal exposure methodologies Oversee legal negotiations for traded products Assess client creditworthiness and assign appropriate credit ratings Maintain updated credit research on a portfolio of clients Mentor and guide junior resources, managing workloads and ensuring deadlines are met, escalating issues to senior managers as needed Lead efficiency projects and assist in training and developing analysts Participate in client due diligence meetings

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

Bachelor's Degree  Experience in credit risk management Coursework in accounting and corporate finance Strong interest in client interaction with excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to perform well under pressure in a demanding environment Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Japanese and English language skills

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

At least 3 years of experience in financial services (investment banking or similar)
