Job Description
The Welding Manufacturing Engineer provides technical expertise in welding processes to Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality departments. This role involves providing technical leadership and support to the production team in the fabrication assembly, specifically related to weld processes, procedures, work instructions, manuals, fixtures, and weld sequences. The Engineer works closely with Design Engineering to drive design corrections, improvements, and changes identified from the production line or customer feedback. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities as a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI).
ResponsibilitiesProvide Weld Design Input to complete in-house designed products, components, and systems.Perform tooling design and procurement associated with the welding department.Troubleshoot manufacturing processes to obtain Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCAs).Create and maintain all production standards and procedures.Review production variances and new manufactured part designs and standards.Provide Technical Weld Design Information to Design Engineering.Provide direct technical support to the production team.Specify and procure new equipment, tooling, and technology to meet production and quality requirements.Resolve shop issues involving welding equipment and tooling, and lead solution implementation.Inspect welded joints to ensure compliance with company standards, national code requirements, and customer job specifications.Design weld fixturing and tooling using SolidWorks software.Oversee prototype weldments to establish new product best practices and time standards.Liaise with engineering and new products teams to qualify new products and design changes.Develop and oversee certification testing for qualification of welders to national codes and customer requirements.Assist in the development and documentation of production welding best practices.Provide training for Visual Weld Inspection practices and administer written and practical examinations for qualification.Support implementation of new shop floor/equipment layouts to streamline production flow and throughput using Lean Manufacturing concepts.Draft work instructions and/or shop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Perform other duties as required.Essential SkillsB.S. Degree in Engineering5-7 years of experience in a Manufacturing environment as a Weld EngineerMinimum 1 year of experience as a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI)Proficiency in SolidWorksExperience defining weld processes, specifying voltage and amperage, and reviewing welding symbology on blueprints, specifications, or drawings5+ years of experience writing work instructions, weld sequencing, and welding methodologiesFamiliarity with American Welding Society standards D1.1, D1.2 & D1.3Strong problem-solving and organizational skillsExcellent communication, interpersonal, and training skillsAbility to work with little or no supervisionKnowledge in welding design, processes, procedures, and best practicesExperience interfacing with suppliers to support process development and cost reduction for new productsProficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteExperience working with military specifications and requirements, AS-9100Planning and scheduling abilitiesAdministrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, enforcing rules, and making decisionsCurrently certified as a Visual Weld Inspector through AWS or ASNTLean Manufacturing, Root Cause Analysis, and Process Improvement experienceAdditional Skills & QualificationsExperience with robotic welding programmingMechanical engineering, Product development engineering, and Mechanical design experienceExcel data analysis and Epicor knowledgeUS Citizenship requiredSelf-motivated and flexible, with sensitivity, honesty, and integrityPay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.08 - $50.48/hr.
