**Job Title: Welder** **Job Description** As a welder, you will be responsible for striking an arc to generate heat, melting, and depositing metal from the electrode to the workpiece, joining edges of work pieces. You will manually guide the electrode or gun along the weld line, maintaining the length of the arc and speed of movement to form the specified depth of fusion and bead. This role involves welding in various positions such as flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead, and examining welds for bead size and other specifications. **Responsibilities** + Manually guide the electrode or gun along the weld line, maintaining arc length and speed. + Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions. + Examine welds for bead size and other specifications. + Apply filler rod manually to supply weld metal. + Clean or degrease weld joints or workpieces. + Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes. + Prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces. + Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter. + Preheat workpieces with a hand torch or heating furnace. + Position and clamp workpieces together or assemble them in a jig or fixture. + Tack assemblies together. **Essential Skills** + Experience with blueprints (preferred) + MIG welding experience (1+ years manually welding) + Basic understanding of welding fundamentals + Experience with stainless, mild, or carbon steel + Positive attendance history + Experience with assembly and structural welding + Proficiency with measuring tools **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Experience working in a manufacturing environment + Eagerness to learn + Experience with hand and power tools + Comfortable working in a non-temperature controlled environment + Willingness to work overtime **Why Work Here?** Join a family-owned company with locations in Illinois and Michigan. The facility is relatively clean and medium-sized. You will be working the first shift. **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract position based out of Altamont, Illinois. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
