Web Development Supervisor
The College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a Web Development Supervisor to supervise a development team responsible for managing over 90 public-facing websites as well as an internal CMS platform for faculty and departments in Arts and Sciences. This role will shape our future web architecture using modern web technologies and content management systems. The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following job duties:
Web Development and CMS Administration
Serve as the lead architect and administrator for web systems, including security design, application lifecycle management, data integrations, and quality control.Administer and enhance existing hosting and Content Management System infrastructure to support the Arts and Sciences Enterprise.Assist with development and deployment of scripts to automate administrative tasks in web systems.Work directly with departmental staff and faculty to ensure best in class web presence for their work.Web Development and CMS Administration

Develop, deploy, and administer secure web applications using modern web technologies meeting comprehensive accessibility requirements.Manage continuous integration, UAT and delivery processes to ensure resilience and agility.Work with vendors to ensure coordination and optimization of web platforms.Data Integration Support
Serve as backup on data integration tasks including web data flows, web apis and integrations.Manage database administration tasks including database backup, performance tuning and security.Develop and deploy integration solutions to connect enterprise data sets with web solutions.Team Management
Manage user story development, estimation, and user acceptance testing activities.Supervise a team of 2-3 developers and content specialists.Ensure proper documentation of processes and cross-training to ensure operational resilience.Collaborate with other schools and units to develop a web development community of practice.In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Qualified candidates must have:
Education: GED/High School Graduate required. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline preferred.
Experience: Four years experience in IT related field.
Preferred knowledge/skills/abilities:
Excellent communication skills and a proven customer service mindset.Experience designing and administering complex web systems (such as Drupal, WordPress) in an office setting.Experience writing and debugging code in JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and a learning mindset.Familiarity with managing and supporting database and API technologies.Preferred Experience:
Experience administering Drupal and WordPress platforms in a professional setting.Experience developing web applications using JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.Experience with web application User Experience (UX) design.Experience with content management and administration on platforms such as Drupal and WordPress.Prior management experience.Management experience in leading a development team.Physical demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Anticipated hiring range: $100,000-$110,000, commensurate with education and experience.
