Web Developer
As a Business Unit (School of Nursing) Web Developer, you will create custom programs and web code of moderate complexity to enhance the appeal, utility, and functionality of websites. You will design both standalone and database-linked web interfaces to make data and applications web-accessible. By integrating third-party applications into web platforms through custom coding and APIs, you will utilize advanced technical skills to address complex integrations and CMS tasks. You will exercise autonomy in solving routine problems and determining solution strategies, working independently on daily tasks.

Additionally, you will provide training, support, and guidance to stakeholders to execute work processes focused on content development and delivery, as well as policies (including accessibility and style conformance requirements). Your responsibilities will include designing mock-ups for websites, building frameworks for CMS content build-out, writing custom CSS styles and JavaScript code, manipulating graphics and images in Photoshop, and performing other technical tasks that drive a web marketing and content delivery portfolio.

You will interact routinely with Information Systems team members, students, faculty, staff clients, and external vendors and service providers. By facilitating collaboration among constituencies, you will enable web technologies to actualize and integrate the School of Nursing and UVA Health Strategic Plans.

Anticipated salary: 60,000 annually

Administer Enterprise Content Management Systems (CMS):

Execute overall responsibility for the School's enterprise CMS, ensuring seamless integration of search and calendar functionalities, and other adjunct technologies.Maintain publishing and secure site transfer processes.Perform technical upgrades of the CMS and related technologies.Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise.Uphold a Service Level Agreement (SLA) of at least 96%.

Client and Stakeholder Relationship Management:

Foster and manage relationships with internal and UVA Health constituents and stakeholders to implement modern and responsive Web technologies that advance strategic marketing objectives.Work with stakeholders to improve and deliver responsive Web technologies to deliver Web-based content targeted for faculty, staff, student and other internal audiences.

Vendor Relationship Management:

Foster and manage relationships with Web technology vendors to ensure systems and technologies are up-to-date and functioning optimally.Under management direction, explore and assess new technologies for potential adoption.Oversee the implementation, configuration, and support of newly procured technologies.


CMS Access and Training:

Manage access permissions for the CMS.Provide comprehensive training for new CMS users, enabling them to produce and publish content effectively.


Content Development and Website Infrastructure:

Design and implement new content types and website frameworks within the CMS.Review and approve content for publication, adhering to established guidelines and protocols.


Web Development and Design:

Craft CSS and JavaScript code to form the foundational elements of modern websites.Create and implement website visualizations and templates.Collaborate with Marketing & Communications and other staff to enhance content input, SEO strategies, and ensure accessibility compliance.Develop bespoke solutions to improve user interfaces and the overall functionality of websites and web applications.


System Integration:

Seamlessly integrate systems using APIs, integration platforms, and other innovative solutions.Manage, at a technical level, custom search, calendaring, and other technologies that integrate into the CMS and published Web sites. Engineer and implement new solutions (including new technologies) as requested.


User Interface Design:

Lead the requirements gathering process and articulate user interface requirements.Develop preliminary visualizations, such as wireframes, to convey design concepts.


Intranet and Public-Facing Website Management:

Design, build, and manage internal websites, ensuring they meet organizational needs and requirements.As a skilled designer, and/or in collaboration with third-party designers, create concepts and visual frameworks for public-facing websites. Translate concepts into built-out frameworks in the CMS.


Documentation and Maintenance:

Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for all systems and processes.

Minimum Requirements:
 

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering, or a related field, demonstrating the necessary technical skills and competencies for this role.


Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant experience is required. In certain cases, substantial relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement.


Licensure: Not applicable.


Physical Demands:


The role is predominantly sedentary, with a significant amount of time spent working at a desktop computer. It may occasionally necessitate travel to participate in meetings and events.


Other Requirements:

Proficiency in Photoshop for creating graphics and editing photos is essential.The candidate must be adept at building and maintaining relationships across diverse groups, ensuring engagement and securing consensus when necessary.Candidates must possess, or be capable of quickly developing, expertise in an enterprise CMS that is deployed on-premises and publishes to both on-premises servers and PaaS platforms.Familiarity with IIS platforms and .NET frameworks is expected.This position is primarily on-site, with the possibility of occasional remote work (subject to management approval).
