This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This information is located in the Qualification Section. Responsibilities Serve as operator in charge of the sewage disposal plant. Operate and maintain water pumping and treating equipment. Perform water plant operator maintenance. Determine significance of any problems occurring and take appropriate action. Conduct daily, routine, basic laboratory tests necessary for plant operation. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications About the Position: This position is with the Joint Munitions Command located at McAlester, OK. This position serves as a Water Treatment Plant Operator applying standard plant operating procedures. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Physical Effort: Water plant operators do considerable walking, standing on concrete floors, and climbing stairways and ladders. Light to moderate physical effort is necessary to turn valves and controls. They frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) unassisted and occasionally lift and carry heavier items with assistance of other workers or with lifting devices. Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside; subject to damp, odorous, and varied weather conditions for substantial amount of time; possible infection, asphyxiation, and injury from contact with sewage, and sewage gases and fumes, plant equipment and/or more severe injuries from falls into open tanks. Is exposed to chlorine gas and dusts of lime and alum which may call for protective clothing. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. This position may require overtime work.
