ResponsibilitiesThe Vice President (VP) of Ethics serves as a senior leader within the organization, collaborating with the Vice President of Mission to ensure the integration of ethical principles throughout the healthcare region. This role provides region-wide ethical education and formation, overseeing clinical and organizational ethics consultation processes, and managing the development and implementation of ethical standards and policies. The VP of Ethics is responsible for fostering an environment where ethical decision-making aligns with the Catholic identity and mission of the organization. In addition, the VP of Ethics chairs all Ethics Committees and supports key committees, boards, and leadership in addressing ethical issues across the region. Prepares and reports appropriate data to Prime Healthcare leadership to monitor performance and progress of key initiatives and plans. Performs related responsibilities as required.
QualificationsEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
Master’s degree in healthcare ethics/bioethics or theology with a focus on healthcare ethics, or Ph.D. in Catholic theology/moral theology with expertise in healthcare ethics. Alternatively, a M.D. or J.D. with advanced studies in healthcare ethics and Catholic moral theology is acceptable.A minimum of 5 years of experience working as an ethicist. At least 3 years of experience with a Catholic healthcare organization preferred.Familiarity with ethics committees, clinical consultation processes, and healthcare law, particularly classic ethical cases.Demonstrated ability to teach, present, and write clearly and effectively, with experience in developing educational programs and resources.Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups (e.g., clinicians, patients, administrators, employees, and media) and facilitate meetings and group discussions.Willingness to travel regularly to all hospitals within region.Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
