Role

Applied Materials has an exciting opportunity for a well-established leader with deep expertise in complex litigation and regulatory enforcement matters to join our world-class legal organization as Vice President, Global Litigation.  This role will have full responsibility and accountability for managing the company’s global litigation, investigations, and regulatory enforcement matters directly reporting to the Chief Legal Officer and with oversight from the Audit Committee.  This role will be responsible for: (1) providing strategic direction and oversight of all litigation and regulatory matters, including insider risk incidents; (2) collaborating closely with the executive team, business leaders, and technical experts as well as third-party experts and outside counsel; (3) developing transparent reporting and metrics on significant matters; (4) managing an operating budget; and (5) contributing to the corporate strategy on enterprise risks.  This role requires a proactive and results-oriented individual with excellent judgment and communication skills who can navigate the challenges of a fast-paced technology environment with a business focused mindset.  This is a key strategic and leadership role for the Company, requiring extensive people management and leadership experience, strategic acumen, and prior experience reporting to a public company Board of Directors.  This position will be located in Santa Clara, CA.

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications

Lead and manage all aspects of the company's litigation and investigation matters, including offensive and defensive investigations, insider risk incidents, litigation, and pre-litigation matters.

Provide strategic legal advice to the executive leadership team and business units on litigation risk, scenario planning and financial impact, and dispute resolution.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including other leaders within the Legal & Compliance Organization as well as other functions across the company—including Internal Audit, Information Security, Human Resources, and Finance, to advise on enterprise risk and inform corporate strategy and planning along with key business decisions.

Manage all aspects of an effective global team, including budgeting, staffing and reporting.  This includes overseeing all litigation and regulatory matters are effectively managed, and that mergers and acquisitions and other strategic complex transactions have the appropriate litigation support.

Prepare reports and deliver presentations for the Board of Directors.

Stay current on legal trends and developments in the technology industry to provide strategic guidance to the executive leaders Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited top tier law school and admission to practice law in one or more US jurisdictions.

Minimum of 15+ years of experience managing complex litigation matters and a global team, with a minimum of 3 years reporting to a public company Board of Directors.

Significant leadership experience managing global, large and/or multiple teams; US and Asia experience preferred.

Excellent judgment and experience identifying enterprise risk and providing strategic advice to executive teams in a global, public company.

Deep subject matter expertise in regulatory enforcement matters with positive outcomes.

Experience working directly with and communicating to executive leadership, with a demonstrated track record of influencing leadership on key risk areas.

Proven ability to navigate the legal and regulatory landscape of a publicly traded company.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, mentor and coach emerging talent, and influence stakeholders at all levels.

Strong business acumen and the ability to align legal strategies with business objectives.

U.S. Salary Range:

$280,000.00 - $385,000.00

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
