Position Summary:

 

Burlington is seeking an operational and strategic Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis who can serve as a thought partner to the SVP, FP&A and EVP, CFO.  The VP will lead the creation of strategic and financial plans, including: the Annual Budget, 5-yr Plan, develop the weekly earnings forecast, and support ad hoc analyses designed to accelerate the financial performance of the company. 

 

The VP of Financial Planning & Analysis will be responsible for supporting company-wide strategic initiatives/analyses and quantifying the long-range impacts to the P&L.  This position will partner with the organization on business cases and return on investment projects by providing thought leadership and financial perspective.  The position will be instrumental in enhancing current FP&A processes, improving accuracy, and driving accountability with internal stakeholders on budgets and forecasts. 

 

The VP of Financial Planning & Analysis will be hands-on and highly operational. They will help drive business performance, balancing long-term strategic objectives with near-term financial performance in a consumer-facing, competitive environment. They will bring immediate credibility and will run a world class and contemporary FP&A organization. The successful candidate will possess excellent quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to roll up their sleeves and get into the details when needed.  The VP will possess a bias for action, with the ability to prioritize and separate the important from the truly critical. 

 

A priority for this role is to evolve the FP&A function by identifying process improvement opportunities to drive Burlington’s enterprise growth strategy. They will possess the grit and entrepreneurial spirit to help unleash Burlington's "Full Potential.”  This is a unique opportunity to increase market share in a growing space in the retail market. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of this role will ultimately be the timely and accurate creation of weekly, monthly and annual financial forecasts and plans and the related reporting both internal and external.Lead the FP&A team and financial analyses and reporting. Create strategic and financial plans including the Annual Budget, the 5-yr Plan, and the Weekly Earnings Forecast.
Prepare and support the board meeting and earnings call materials and documentation.Support the creation of ad-hoc analyses/plans/forecasts/models that help Burlington achieve its desired results.Serve as a key partner to the SVP, FP&A and the CFO to evolve the FP&A function by identifying and implementing improvements across all core FP&A functions and processes.Build and maintain a high-performance culture. Act as a culture ambassador, implementing a strong performance-based culture based on partnership, accountability, excellence, continuous improvement, and an environment where people want to work. Ensure accounting and finance practices conform to Company policies, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and all applicable tax laws.  Ensure that internal control systems are maintained at adequate levels consistent with regulatory requirements and best practices for a public company.The individual in this role is expected to work across the entire finance organization and beyond to ensure timely and accurate financial forecasts and plans, to act as a liaison for various functional projects, and identify opportunities for improving our FP&A processes and implementing the appropriate changes.The successful candidate will be willing to productively challenge the status quo across the finance organization and be willing and able to describe and defend their position. 

 

Education and Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or similar field requiredAdvanced degree preferred

 

Licenses/Certification/Registration:

CFA Certification is a plus, but not requiredCPA Certification is a plus, but not required

 

Experience:

12+ progressive years in relevant Finance and leadership roles.Demonstrated experience as VP of Financial Planning and Analysis in an off-price or similar retailerPublic company FP&A experienceDemonstrated experience with team management and leadership, exhibiting confidence and enthusiasm, sound business ethics/integrity and management style consistent with Burlington’s core values.

 

Skills and Abilities: 

 

FP&A Expertise

Track record of leading a high performing FP&A team at a publicly traded retailer of similar size and complexion to Burlington Stores.  The candidate will have demonstrated mastery of process and methodology in all key aspects of FP&A such as annual budgeting, weekly/monthly forecasting, long range planning, earnings and guidance preparation and board of director’s support.
