Volunteer Supervisor

Description:

Position Purpose:

Assures that the mission of Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines is lived by assisting, supporting and organizing the volunteers; and related activities of the Volunteer Services Department.

What you will do:

In conjunction with the Vice President, develops, reviews and implements volunteer placement and maintenance strategies that ensure appropriate volunteer services that promote the healing ministry of Mercy Medical Center.

Directly and indirectly manages volunteers in placement areas, including on boarding, on-going maintenance and retention of volunteers

Works in a team environment and collaborate with a variety of professionals.

Recruits, interviews, orients and evaluates volunteers.

Promotes volunteer opportunities by contributing, developing and ensuring communication in conjunction with PR & Marketing.

Consistently communicates with appropriate individuals or groups to ensure volunteer needs are being met.

Assesses, develops, updates and implements orientation, trainings and related materials.

Establishes and maintains volunteer database and records.

Maintains knowledge of current JCAHO expectations, ensure individual volunteer and his/her files are in accordance with JCAHO standards.

Manages recognition programs for volunteers ensuring a variety of opportunities.

Establishes and maintains effective relationships that solicit constructive feedback and recognition with departments, affiliates and volunteers to ensure success of the department.

Develops placements and trainings of volunteers based on interests and needs, ensuring successful results.

Establishes and maintains regular visits and communication with departments, affiliates and volunteers that solicit feedback, constructive criticism and appreciation.

Effectively handles inquiries on programs

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.

Minimum two years of management experience.

Previous experience working with volunteers is preferred.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational and computer skills.

Experience working in a team environment and collaborate with a variety of professionals.

Experience instructing, interacting and motivating persons from diverse and culturally dynamic populations.

Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
