Job Description:

Volunteers offer an enthusiastic, caring environment while engaging children in age-appropriate games, activities, and crafts. Play helps reduce the anxiety and fear children may experience regarding clinic or hospital visits.

Volunteers follow instructions from the Charge Nurses and Volunteer Office to perform volunteer functions in the department including:

Greet patients and families waiting for their surgeryVisit patient rooms to offer distraction toys and comfort items.Visit with patients and families.Keep playroom orderly and cleanLocate and clean wagons and wheelchairs for use.Assist with toy preparation and cleaning as needed.Assist with basic child distraction interaction as needed.Assist staff with any projects as needed

Current Shift Needs are as Follows:

Monday: 9am-12pm or 12pm-3pm

Tuesday: 9am-12pm or 12pm-3pm

Wednesday: 9am-12pm

Thursday: 9am-12pm or 12pm-3pm

Friday: 12pm-3pm

**NO WEEKEND SHIFTS AVAILABLE!**

Physical Requirements:

Be at least 16 years old.Be able to commit to 6 months of volunteering once a week for three hours.Able to follow and execute instructionsAbility to work independently as well as part of a teamAble to work with children in varying age groupsAble to work well with diverse populationsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsSensitive to patient and family situations / dynamicsMaintain and respect professional relationships
