The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting opportunity for a full time Ophthalmic Clinic Assistant at the Plantation, Florida.
The Ophthalmic Clinic Assistant coordinates the patient flow in and out of the exam rooms to ensure exam rooms are prepared for each visit and provides general administrative support to the clinic.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Monitors the progress of patients undergoing diagnostic testing or consultations.
Assists physician in setting up for various in-office minor procedures.
Serves as a liaison between physicians and patients and the registration appointment, HIM, and financial and business office staff.
Logs sample drugs in and out for patients and physicians.
Answers patients’ questions regarding wait time and orients patients as to where to go for tests. Answers telephone in a professional manner, relays messages timely, and follows up.
Verifies insurance coverage on patients requiring special procedures.
Informs, assists, and schedules patients for clinical studies, diagnostic, and special procedures.
Works closely with medical records staff to ensure that all the charts are returned to medical records at the end of each day.
Ensures that clinic exam rooms are well stocked and that all equipment is in working condition.
Maintains examination work-up forms and all other pertinent medical forms, in exam rooms and in stock, readily available to physicians for patient care.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
Minimum 1-year relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).
