We are looking for a skilled and proactive Virtualization Engineer II to join our team. This position focuses on designing, deploying, and maintaining robust virtualization infrastructure with a strong emphasis on performance, security, and high availability. The Virtualization Engineer II will work closely with IT and infrastructure teams to support operational needs through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and capacity management, ensuring all systems are secure and aligned with best practices. While this role primarily supports on-premises environments, familiarity with cloud technologies is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide Level 1 and Level 2 on-call support for virtualization systems, quickly responding to incidents and service requests.Manage and resolve virtualization system issues, applying security patches and performing system upgrades to ensure compliance, security, and reliability.Schedule, coordinate, and implement virtualization system changes, following Change Management policies to minimize operational disruptions.Provision new virtualization server builds and configurations in accordance with organizational standards and security protocols.Perform system monitoring and proactively address potential issues to maintain optimal performance and system availability.Apply performance tuning practices and recommendations to optimize virtualization system operations.Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency, security, and reliability of virtualization systems.Oversee proper delegation of accounts and privileges, adhering to security standards.Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including IT and infrastructure teams, to support project and operational objectives.Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.Experience:3–5 years of experience in virtualization server administration, with expertise in VMware ESX and Solaris virtualization (LDOMs, Zones).Demonstrated experience in system upgrades, patch management, and proactive security updates on virtualization systems.Technical Skills:Proficiency in VMware ESX and Solaris virtualization technologies, including provisioning, configuration, and server management.Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, Perl) and experience with configuration management and automation tools, specifically Ansible and YAML.Solid understanding of Aria and VMware automation technologies.Solid understanding of (vmware) container concepts, etc.Solid understanding of networking concepts, SAN and NAS storage, and configuration management.Experience with system performance monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning to support high availability.Problem-Solving: Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities, capable of resolving complex virtualization system issues in high-pressure environments.Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information effectively to team members and non-technical stakeholders.Certifications: Relevant virtualization certifications (e.g., VMware Certified Professional) are preferred; cloud-related certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are a plus.Preferred Qualifications:
