Position Summary/Description:
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an experienced, innovative, and collaborative leader to serve as its Senior Vice Provost for Undergraduate Student Success. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, this position oversees and integrates functions that support both academic success and the flourishing and happiness of Carolina’s undergraduate students in the areas of physical and mental health, character and virtue, and the social duties of life in a democracy.
The Senior Vice Provost will plan, direct, and coordinate efforts across all undergraduate student success units. These reporting units include:
* Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs: Encompassing offices and programs that provide student support, engagement, and development, including the Dean of Students, Campus Recreation, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Services, and Student Life and Leadership.
* Vice Provost for Enrollment Management: Overseeing Admissions, Financial Aid, the Registrar, and units that focus on student recruitment and financial accessibility.
* Senior Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education (Dual Report): Supporting academic advising, general education curriculum implementation, undergraduate research, honors programs, and initiatives to enhance academic success.
* Assistant Provost & Director Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes: Supporting advising and student athlete success.
Together, these units form the foundation for an integrated approach to student success, focusing on supporting student flourishing and fulfilling UNCs founding mission to ‘consult the happiness of a rising generation and endeavor to fit them for an honorable discharge of the social duties of life, by paying the strictest attention to their education.’
Education and Experience:
An earned doctorate or terminal degree with extensive experience in student focused leadership roles within higher education.
Essential Skills:
Leadership Experience: Significant leadership experience in higher education administration, preferably at a public research institution, with a demonstrated ability to manage complex organizations and drive institutional change.
Strategic Vision: Proven ability to develop and execute a strategic vision for student success that integrates diverse aspects of the student experience.
Operational Expertise: A track record of effectively overseeing multifaceted units, managing resources, institutional change, and aligning organizational goals with institutional priorities.
Collaborative Approach: Demonstrated ability to foster partnerships across administrative and academic units, uniting stakeholders in pursuit of shared goals.
Fundraising Acumen: Experience in developing and executing strategies to secure resources through philanthropic and external support.
Student-Centered Philosophy: A deep commitment to supporting students’ academic achievement and personal development.
Analytical and Decision-Making Skills: Proficiency in utilizing data and analytics to identify challenges, assess program effectiveness, and inform decision-making.
