Job Summary:

As the Vice President of Development, you will be responsible for overseeing and implementing comprehensive strategies to secure funding and support for the organization's mission and programs. You will lead a small team of development professionals and work closely with executive leadership to cultivate relationships, steward donors, and drive revenue growth. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in fundraising, donor relations, and team management.
The Vice President of Development will promote a positive work environment that celebrates our vision, mission and core values in every action and interaction with team members, donors, customers, management and persons served.

Job Description

Essential Functions

Strategic Planning: Develops and executes a strategic fundraising plan aligned with the organization's mission and goals. Identifies key fundraising priorities, opportunities, and challenges.Fundraising Campaigns: Leads the planning, implementations, and evaluation of fundraising campaigns, including annual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, planned giving, events, capital campaigns, grant writing. Sets ambitious but achievable fundraising targets and timelines.Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: Cultivates relationships with donors. prospects, and stakeholders to deepen engagement and support. Implements stewardship strategies to recognize and retain donors, ensuring a high level of satisfaction and loyalty.Financial: Meet/exceed annual budgeted goals. Increase contributed revenue, number of donors, frequency of contributions as well as contribution level of donors, focusing on major gifts. Improve revenue/expense ratio.Team Leadership: Provides leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the development team. Sets clear goals, expectations, and performance metrics. Fosters a collaborative and results-driven culture. Actively participates in organizational priority events and activities.Cross Functional Collaboration: Collaborates closely with executive leadership, program staff, and board members to integrate fundraising efforts with organizational priorities. Communicates effectively across departments to ensure alignment and support for fundraising initiatives. Keeps the CMO informed of all activities and results.Grants Management: Oversees the grant-seeking process, including prospect research, proposal writing and reporting. Identify funding opportunities from foundations, government agencies, and other sources.Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilizes fundraising data and analytics to track progress, measure success, and identify areas for improvement. Prepares regular reports for internal stakeholders and board members.Compliance and Ethics: Ensures compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing fundraising activities. Upholds the highest standards of integrity and transparency in all interactions with donors and partners.Professional Development: Stays informed about best practices, trends, and innovations in the field of fundraising and nonprofit management. Seek opportunities for professional development and continuous learning.Maintains regular, reliable attendance, as defined in Goodwill's attendance policy.Other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Skills:

Education

Bachelor's degree in development, communication or related field is required.CFRE Certification is preferred.

Experience

Minimum of five years demonstrable experience designing and implementing successful Development/Fundraising campaigns is required.Proven work experience as a Development Vice President or other senior role is required.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong written and oral communication skills including ability to be able to communicate effectively with all levels of management and employees.Must have a strategic mindset, with ability to make difficult decisions.Proven success in building and leading teams to generate significant contributed revenue including individual, corporate, foundation, and capital campaign solicitation; direct marketing; special event fundraising; and planned giving.Demonstrated personal experience closing significant major gifts.Strong strategic and analytical skills, interpersonal and relationship-building prowess.Demonstrated knowledge and experience writing successful proposals, case for supports/case statements and articulating messages to various audiences.Attention to accuracy, detail and follow up.Understanding of budgeting, financial forecasting, and resource allocation for fundraising efforts.Strong leadership skills.Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.Ability to relate well to a wide variety of people from our clients who have disabilities to agency board members and other community leaders.Work independently with a high degree of creativity.Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and InternetIdentify as a team player.
