Job Description

Visa is seeking a proactive commercial and product lawyer to serve as Vice President leading legal support for the Growth Products and Partnerships organization. The position will lead a team of lawyers and report to the Senior Vice President who leads the Global Product, IP and Services Legal team.

The Vice President will be responsible for managing complex technology transactions and commercial matters in support of Visa’s Growth Products and Partnerships and Strategy organizations, including support for cutting edge payment products and technologies. This role includes:

Drafting, negotiating and closing complex and strategic technology transactions and commercial agreements in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.  Being a trusted advisor to Product and Strategy leadership.Managing a team of attorneys responsible for supporting Growth Products and Partnerships.Providing sophisticated and creative counseling and advice to business teams regarding product development, deployment, and associated commercial considerations.Working closely with regional legal teams across the globe and cross-functional teams to properly balance potential legal, regulatory, and other risks to enable business objectives and provide guidance regarding strategic initiatives and growth strategies.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Basic Qualifications


•12 or more years of work experience with a bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 8 years of work experience with a PhD
• Valid license to practice in the state where the job is located or the ability to become state registered in-house counsel in good standing

Preferred Qualifications


• Relevant legal experience: At least 15 years of legal experience in commercial legal matters with a JD (or the international equivalent). Demonstrated experience working on technology transactions, experience advising product teams. Ability to drive execution in a team environment, integrating legal advice and business knowledge while providing balanced advice regarding risks and benefits.
• Business acumen and leadership: Strong business acumen, practical and proactive problem-solver, works well under significant pressure and with strong personalities, has a positive attitude, and an effective leader who motivates and engages others through fostering a collaborative team environment. Management experience. Proven ability to directly and effectively engage with senior leaders.
• Complex transactions and emerging products, payments: Experience creating new agreements and developing legal framework for new areas preferred. Technology and/or payments experience preferred.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 261,800.00 to 409,050.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
