**Overview**
The VP, Group Director, Science & Medicine is a senior scientific leader responsible for setting and driving the medical and scientific strategy across client brands and therapeutic areas. This role blends deep medical expertise with strategic leadership, creative collaboration, and operational oversight. The VP, Group Director will lead a multidisciplinary team of Medical Strategists, Medical Directors, and Medical Editors, ensuring the agency’s work is clinically accurate, insight-driven, and aligned with client goals and regulatory standards.
This individual will partner with cross-functional leaders to shape brand narratives, translate complex science into meaningful storytelling, and guide the scientific direction of client engagements across a portfolio of brands.
**Responsibilities**
**Scientific Leadership & Strategic Direction**
- Provide high-level strategic and scientific leadership across multiple client accounts.
- Lead the development of science-forward brand strategies, positioning, and messaging platforms grounded in clinical evidence and audience insights.
- Act as a senior consultant and scientific thought partner to clients, creative teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Serve as a key voice in shaping agency-wide approaches to scientific storytelling, innovation, and excellence.
**Team Management & Cross-Functional Oversight**
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of Medical Strategists, Medical Directors, and Medical Editors.
- Foster a high-performance, collaborative culture that supports learning, career development, and excellence in execution.
- Ensure team resourcing aligns with account needs and project pipelines.
- Oversee internal quality control processes and promote best practices across scientific content development.
**Client Engagement & Business Growth**
- Serve as the senior medical liaison to clients, helping them navigate complex scientific topics, industry regulations, and market challenges.
- Contribute to business development efforts including pitch strategy, scientific POVs, and thought leadership.
- Identify and nurture opportunities for organic growth by expanding medical/scientific services on existing accounts.
**Content Quality & Regulatory Compliance**
- Guide and review content across deliverables (e.g., HCP campaigns, sales materials, digital content, visual aids, animations) to ensure medical accuracy and alignment with client strategy.
- Ensure that all materials meet regulatory, legal, and compliance standards (e.g., MLR, OPDP, FDA).
- Promote scientific integrity and consistency in referencing, sourcing, and claims.
**Internal Education & Knowledge Sharing**
- Educate cross-functional teams (creative, strategy, account) on disease states, therapeutic landscapes, clinical data, and scientific innovations.
- Lead internal knowledge sessions, mentor junior team members, and champion a culture of scientific curiosity and continuous learning.
**Qualifications**
- Advanced degree in a scientific or medical discipline (MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent).
- 7–10+ years of experience in medical communications, pharmaceutical marketing, or related healthcare industry, with at least 3 years managing multi-disciplinary scientific teams.
- Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical product lifecycle, including pre-launch and launch planning, competitive landscapes, and post-market support.
- Proven ability to translate complex clinical concepts into strategic, compelling messaging.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience navigating promotional regulatory requirements and medical/legal processes.
**Preferred**
- Broad therapeutic area expertise.
- Experience leading content development for multichannel HCP and Consumer-focused campaigns
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, agency environment with multiple stakeholders.

Compensation Range: $156,560 - $224,910 annually. This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. Temporary roles may be eligible to participate in our freelancer/temporary employee medical plan through a third-party benefits administration system once certain criteria have been met. Temporary roles may also qualify for participation in our 401(k) plan after eligibility criteria have been met. For regular roles, the Company will offer medical coverage, dental, vision, disability, 401k, and paid time off.
