Vice President, Global Payroll
Description Position at Ziff Davis

The VP, Global Payroll will lead and manage all aspects of payroll for Ziff Davis’ employees across the globe (currently approximately 4,000 employees). As the subject matter expert for all payroll matters you will share expertise on complex issues and provide hands-on execution of domestic and international payroll services.  The ideal candidate is experienced in Global Payroll Operations and has a passion for creating innovative payroll solutions. The candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing an enhanced corporate and local payroll strategy, planning and communications for the payroll function, and related services. This position will be a leader in the corporate human resources team and foster relationships with senior internal stakeholders by establishing and maintaining exceptional business relationships and working collaboratively with other corporate and country level teams including HR, Legal, Tax, Finance, Treasury, and Employee Benefits. The candidate is expected to run day to day payroll operations, support new and existing pay programs (local and global), manage vendor contracts and relationships, and drive process standardization, automation, and improvement in the controls for payroll globally while ensuring process efficiency and effectiveness. The position will also develop and implement new  initiatives including exploring and managing the implementation of 3rd party vendors to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance in multiple countries. Finally, this position will be responsible for the coaching, mentoring, and leadership of the direct and indirect team of individuals and managers that provide the day-to-day payroll support. Ziff Davis, Inc. is headquartered in New York, with offices across the US, as well as in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, Philippines, Spain, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, and the UK.

 

The VP, Global Payroll will:Develop and implement an enhanced corporate and local payroll strategyLead our new Global Payroll team with an integrated vision to support Ziff Davis’ mission with a secure, accurate and compliant global payroll service offeringPartner with our Employment Tax, Employment Law, Stock Administration and Global HR  organizations to ensure compliant and accurate reporting, and support global payroll tax and other audits, SOX controls, special programs, mobility programs, GDPR and other jurisdictional requirements in every country in which we operateDevelop strong client and stakeholder relationships, implement effective communication programs, and transform our global employee support modelDrive consistent processes across the globe while allowing flexibility locally when requiredMaximize the effectiveness of technologies and supporting processes to drive continuous improvement and change initiativesLead Global Payroll to ensure compliance with all corporate and country-specific policies, procedures and benefitsEvaluate and, if necessary, enhance SOX related controls and and other policy and regulatory complianceEstablish partnerships with third party vendors to ensure effective service deliveryManage the global and/or regional payroll vendor relationships, including selection, contract negotiation, consolidation, and management of vendorsImplement and leverage technology that best fits the Company’s needsProvide oversight and effective management of all team members (i.e. direct and indirect reports) to include but not limited to the following:Coaching and counseling as appropriateEmployee developmentRecruitment, selection, and development of talentManaging, directing, and measuring work on an ongoing basis, providing timely constructive feedback to ensure quality of work meets or exceeds company standardsAssuring work is completed in a customer focused mannerExecution of special assignments and initiatives such as:Development of a payroll playbook for acquisitionsIntegrations of payroll related data to other company system implementationsStreamline reporting process and contacts to Finance for more efficient GL recordingAbout you:You have a history of proven delivery of resultsYou are strategic in approach while also comfortable acting as a tactical content expertYou possess the highest level of integrity and stellar judgment, including having the ability to maintain confidentiality and security of dataYou quickly establish trust and credibility across an organization, at all levels and are able to develop and maintain a strong partnership with HR, Tax, Legal, Finance, Accounting etc.You thrive on being a strong collaborator who can work across global, cultural, and geographically dispersed teams and have a willingness to have close, daily collaboration with staff in multiple regionsYou have strong management and leadership skills, including the ability to mentor staffYou are extremely deadline-driven, organized, and able to multitaskYou keep current with payroll tax laws and regulationsYou have exceptional communication skills & ability to influence Experience:10+ years of experience with global payroll and payroll taxBachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related fieldPreferably a member of a recognized Payroll Professional body. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferredKnowledge and experience with stock, travel, and time and attendance programsExperience setting up payroll requirements for new tax entitiesExperience with end to end payroll related M&A activitiesExperience with outsourced payroll compliance vendors (e.g. ADP) and selection/administration requiredExperience leading mid to large and geographically dispersed teamsExperience transforming a payroll function that is very siloed to one that is highly scalable and efficientComprehensive understanding of federal and state laws and payroll practices including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxesPrevious payroll management experience in multi-location multi-divisional environmentKnowledge of public company requirements including Sarbanes Oxley requirements and SOC II Controls
