Veterinary Technician - Surgery Supervisor
VCA Animal Specialty Group is a very busy, fast paced, referral based specialty hospital. We specialize in multiple departments, including Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Cardiology and 24 Emergency.

Compensation : $ 30 - $ 38 / hr

We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Technician Surgery Supervisor that believes in high quality, compassionate care. The candidate is one who can see the big picture, who is innovative, and who can motivate, inspire and lead a team of 18 associates. We’re in search of an ambitious, licensed technician to lead our Surgery team with speed and efficiency, accuracy and thoroughness, and kindness and compassion.Ideal candidates are proficient at the following:

Overseeing and organizing the daily flow of the Surgery department, i.e. procedures, appts, staff lunches, overtime, etc.

Providing and maintaining kind and respectful communication with the doctors, the clients and the associates inside and outside of the Surgery team.

Organizing the team to maintain the high caseload and ensure tasks are being completed thoroughly, efficiently and accurately.

Inspiring, motivating and encouraging associates to excel in their roles and grow within the hospital/company.

Leading by example.

Upholding and enforcing all VCA policies and ASG protocols.

The candidate must be able to complete all tasks of a licensed technician:

IV catheter placement (including sampling catheters)Venipuncture (including arterial sticks) and U/S guided cystosTaking radiographsAnesthesia monitoring and recovery (critical and non-critical patients) for advanced imaging, surgical procedures, and emergency surgeries.Calculating and preparing medications (including boluses, transfusions, and CRIs)Preparation and assisting in minor/major surgeries and procedures.Restraining for exams and diagnosticsApplicants must be/have:2 years in a leadership role.Licensed for at least 2 years with veterinary specialty experienceAble to work 10 hour shifts 4 days/weekAbility to lead with kindness, empathy, and compassionAbility to motivate and inspire others to excel in their rolesAbility to hold associates accountable to VCA policies and ASG protocolsAble to work one weekend day and do optional overnight emergency surgeriesExceptional communication skills and ability to multi-tasking in a very busy environment and work in a team environmentOutstanding organizational and time management skills, including attendanceAble to provide excellent client service and patient careAbility to train associates of all levels as well as visiting student externs

In the Supervisor role, duties Include the following. This is not a complete list.Maintain the associate department schedulesOversee the flow of the department to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and excellent time management.Ensure quality controls: Patient and client care and department cleanliness and preparedness, i.e. ORs, Radiology, and instrumentsOversee training of all department staffOversee accuracy with staff Time & Attendance, including lunches, overtime, leaving early, arriving on time for their scheduled shiftsEnsure staff are re-allocated to other depts when doctors are out of office or on slower daysWork with the specialty manager, hospital manager, and/or P&O partner to investigate concerns, meet with associates, write and present disciplinary documentsAssist with interviewing VCA prospectsand much more!
