Iowa Workforce Development is seeking applicants for the position of Veteran Career Planner at our IowaWorks office in Sioux City, IA. Position Description: We are hiring – and you can make a difference! We have an opportunity at Iowa Workforce Development to serve as a Veteran Career Planner. You can make a difference working with veterans seeking assistance with their employment and training goals. You will assist veterans by establishing rapport, completing assessments of their skills and background, and identifying career goals and objectives, just to name a few! As a Veteran Career Planner, you will facilitate and document individualized career services to veterans and other eligible people as part of an integrated office development team. Individualized career services are defined as comprehensive and specialized assessments of skill levels and service needs. Services may include any combination of the following services, but at a minimum, the first two are required to commence a program of intensive services. + Comprehensive objective assessment of skills, experience and potential barriers to employment + Development of an individual employment plan to identify the employment goals. + Appropriate achievement objectives and appropriate combination of services for the participant to achieve the employment goals. + Group counseling. + Individual counseling and career planning. + Short-term prevocational services that may include development of learning skills, communication skills, interviewing skills, punctuality, personal maintenance skills, and professional conduct to prepare individuals for unsubsidized employment or training. The Veteran Career Planner will develop and maintain a documented plan of action for veterans with proper and timely case notes. Provide and facilitate employment and training services to veterans with at least one qualifying employment barrier or part of another eligible population. Full time Veteran Career Planners will have a goal of 40 eligible people in service management at any one time. Conduct ongoing follow up meaningful activities that will enhance the veteran's employability (i.e. job development) to ensure successful outcomes, contacting all service managed veterans once a week at a minimum. Conduct outreach activities and develop relationships to locate veterans who could benefit from individualized career services and market the services of organizations such as Veteran Service Organizations, CBOCs, Vet Centers, Department of Corrections, homeless shelters, ESGR, WIOA partners, civic and service organizations within local communities (outreach). Veteran Career Planners will interview new veteran applicants with qualifying employment barriers for service. Coordinate with Business Engagement Team(s) and Local Veterans Employment Representatives to match all Veterans and eligible people with job opportunities and provide labor exchange services leading to job placement. Periodically analyze priority services to veterans, provide reports to management summarizing monthly activity, monitor Veterans Performance Standards for achievement of goals and direction of veteran services efforts, and submit all required reports, success stories and follow-up documentation as required on a timely basis. Communicate and provide weekly updates/reports as requested by leadership. Participate in all Office of Veteran Workforce Services meetings and ensure that success stories are shared with the team and local leadership. Include information on participation in marketing efforts, job fairs and other events in an effort to create content and success stories for newsletters and other Iowa WORKS for Veteran social media communication. Advise local office staff in providing non-QEB veterans and people with timely and appropriate labor exchange services. Advise local staff to facilitate the delivery of appropriate services to veterans, periodically analyze priority services to veterans, and monitor job orders received from FCJL employers to ensure veteran preference.
