Vet Histology Technologist III
In collaboration with the Veterinary Pathology Core (VPC) Histology Lab Manager, provides leadership and performs all histopathology procedures. Makes interpretive judgments regarding test results and ensures that all are performed properly. Ensures that results are valid and accurate. Job Responsibilities: Provides leadership and accurately performs and interprets all histology laboratory procedures. Displays advanced knowledge of special histological procedures such as immunohistochemistry, peroxidase, plastics, and special staining procedures. Ensures efficacy of all testing and result reporting. Monitors accuracy of all histology procedures performed. Performs all quality control procedures. Updates all Standard Operating Procedures. Recommends changes to current procedure manuals. Promotes compliance of all standards associated with the histology laboratory. Coordinates and independently analyzes all quality assurance data. Ensures compliance with all histology standards, licensing and accrediting agencies. Assists with the training of the histology staff. Establishes and maintains a training program and manual. Monitors training of staff to assure that mandatory training is completed and continuing education credits obtained annually. Ensures that new personnel receive orientation to the histology section. Ensures that all procedures and training are updated in a timely manner. Performs leadership and administrative assistance. Coordinates the scheduling of all daily workflow to ensure that incoming tissues are processed in a timely manner. Reports problems with attendance or performance to Manager, provides comments on performance for each employee to the Manager prior to annual appraisals. Ensures all changes in procedures are effectively communicated to technicians. Oversees and maintains all standard operating procedures. Manages troubleshooting and preventive maintenance procedures. Reviews preventive maintenance and instrument calibration records. Establishes maintenance procedures and schedules. Oversees maintenance of all histology equipment. Ensures that all relevant Preventative Maintenance data is properly maintained and updated in a timely manner. Oversees quality control procedures. Makes interpretive evaluation on all tissue submitted to the histology lab as to the quality of the tissue submitted. Assists investigators by providing knowledgeable instructions on the proper methods of collecting tissue. Establishes new histology procedures as requested by investigative staff. Recommends to the investigative staff the proper fixative required for special procedures and techniques. Performs other duties as assigned by or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Minimum Education and/or Training: High school diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (in concordance with current Federal and State Regulations) preferred. Minimum Experience: Seven (7) years of post-HTL certification experience as a histotechnician or histotechnologist required. Research histology experience preferred. Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only: (NL) Certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Registry required. Subspecialty qualification in a related area (e.g. Immunohistochemistry) preferred. Compensation In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
