Utility Technician

ESG Operations, an Inframark Company, is hiring a Sewer Collection and Water Distribution Utility Technician in Vidalia, GA.  This position is responsible for the basic installation, repair, and maintenance of sewer collection and water distribution systems, and the cleaning and grounds maintenance of the public utilities facilities.

Duties and responsibilities

Perform basic installation, repair, and maintenance of sewer collections and water distribution systems including: Laying pipe and ensuring it is on the right grade and in the proper layer of gravelMaking sure ditches are shored properly and safe to enterRepairing broken lines, stubs, and force mainsAdjusting manholes to ground levelLandscaping yards and repairing sites after work is completedForming barriers and pouring concrete to repair slabs destroyed during line installationClearing easements to provide easier access to the outfall line Perform general housekeeping and grounds maintenance duties to include: Cleaning restrooms, offices, and locker roomsWashing down solids and algae accumulation on basinsCleaning oil and grease from equipmentPrepares the surfaces on equipment, structures, and buildings for painting and paintsLandscapes the grounds that surround the facilities to include cutting grass, trimming, and pruning of shrubs and trees Maintain, clean, and stock materials on trucks and equipmentOperate dump trucks, front-end loaders and ten-wheel trucks to perform required hauling and unloading of equipment and material, as necessaryOperate vacuum trucks to excavate or clear blocked linesAttend safety classes, reinforce and comply with company safety policiesWork harmoniously with ESG employees and the public and comply with ESG policies

Qualifications

Prefer one year of related experience in sewer and water construction and maintenance, equipment operations, truck driving or manual labor, and must have high school diploma or GED. Must have a valid state driver’s license and meet minimum driving standards.

Knowledge of:

Construction and operation of collection and distribution systemsVarious types of pipeEquipment used in the repair and installation of the sewer and water systemsCleaning techniques and tools and supplies neededGrounds maintenanceSafety practices, procedures and equipment used

Skill in:

The operation of motor vehicles and equipment with specialized controls under all types of weather conditions, including quick-cut saw, tapping machines, wacker packers, pumps, air compressors, coring machines, hand tools, cleaning equipment, painting equipment, lawn equipment, dump truck, power saws, and jackhammers

Ability to:

Read simple sentences or instructions; write simple sentences; and speak simple sentences using basic grammar.Work emergency duty during non-scheduled work hoursThe employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required.Distinguish between different shades of color

Working conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, bright and/or dim light, dust or pollen, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes, or noxious odors. All required safety standards shall be adhered to in order to mitigate risk from moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, heights, blood-borne pathogens, traffic, animals and wildlife, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other identified hazards.

Physical requirements

This position requires frequent standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing. The employee must be able to use hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment. This position requires very heavy physical exertion including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and exert over 100 pounds of force regularly.  The employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required.  The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and depth perception.
