1. Scope of the role
Role purpose:
Responsible for the efficient and effective process control capability, optimization, and standardization of ALL Utilities Plants (WWTP, WTP, SHW+ Boilers, Emergency power plant, Compressed air plant, CO2 recovery plant, Refrigeration plant) to ensure continuous availability of all utilities to the production operations at large.
Key responsibilities:
Subject matter expert in all utilities plant operation, optimization, and process control:
Lead the Sustainability reporting and analysis on water and energy intensity. Analyse operational process parameters, trend and stabilise processes for continuous availability of all utility’s services Utilities process and technical subject matter expect and lead development of up-to-date effective Standard operating procedures. Develop and implement process improvements to maintain and enhance the consistency, quality, and performance of Utilities production systems, and to improve key performance indicators. Design and continuously improve utilities automation and controls systems, supporting upgrades and process changes as necessary. Support Utilities operators, and technicians as needed in the troubleshooting of process and controls equipment. Promote and enforce effective organizational change, and ensure engineering, programming, and automation standards are upheld at all utilities plants Support learning and development initiatives to improve the technical knowledge and skills of operators and technicians within area of expertise at utilities plant Become an expert in the utilities process from start to finish and contribute to the brewery strategy for equipment and process upgrades. Compliance with Heineken PSM program Support Key Performance Indicator improvement for utilities and waste water management to maintain legal, safe and regulatory compliance. Process lead for Utilities optimalization and standardisation Identify and promote energy and utilities related projects. Handle CAPEX projects as assigned by Engineering Manager and act as a liaison between the brewery and OPCO.
TPM Methodology:
Support the implementation continuous improvement initiatives.
Closely coordinate with the FI-pillar to control targets for all utility consumption for all departments, including all corrective and preventative actions. Promoting and demonstrating the use of TPM routes and methodologies, including MCRS. Train utility personnel on improvement methodologies like root cause analysis, fishbone diagram, 5xwhy analysis, kaizen, etc. Performing audits as well on the utility processes and procedures as on improvement teams.
Safety, Health and Environment:
Ensure the department operates within company SHE standards and OHS Act, through continued education and training and obtaining the co-operation and commitment of all staff to observe all safety rules, procedures and processes in order to drive zero accident mentality. Utilities compliance to OHS act 85 of 1993 and associated regulations
Continuous Improvement:
Drive improvement processes and set priorities in order to develop, implement and maintain best in class standards and basic conditions. Conduct quarterly process control audits on all utilities processes

Minimum 5 - 10 years in engineering, production, or related field 5-10 years’ experience as Utilities specialist or similar roles: Min BSc Eng., B-Tech, T4 (National Higher Dip Mech/Chem/Elec Eng.), S4 (National Dip Mech/Chem/Elec Eng.) and or studying towards. 10-15 years’ experience as Utilities specialist or similar roles: N6 with Trade test certificate, S
