**USA - Tax - Indirect Tax – Value Added Tax (VAT) – Intern – Summer 2025**
About our business

We pride ourselves on exceptional client service, strong accountability, and governance, making us the top choice for industry executives and the largest revenue-generating US and global tax practice.

Our approach helps businesses understand their tax liabilities, identify risks and opportunities, and align with their broader tax strategy, reinforcing the critical role of tax and finance in the modern business landscape. Learn from our experienced professionals, cutting-edge technology, and proven methodologies to effectively manage our clients’ indirect tax posture.
**What you will do**
EY US VAT Practice supports US multinationals with their VAT position outside the US. VAT stands for Value Added Tax, and most countries outside the US apply this tax on the supply of goods and services. In many ways VAT is different than the Sales and Use Tax that’s common in the US, and therefore our practice is welcomed by many of the largest multinationals to help them to understand how VAT applies to their activities abroad and become compliant with all the relevant VAT rules.
You will work together with the many different nationalities, including Dutch, British, Brazilian, Romanian, and on a day-to-day basis you will be in contact with our foreign EY offices. It’s hard to find a job that’s more international than working in the VAT practice.
As an Intern in our VAT practice, your role will include:
+ Support senior roles throughout the complete life cycle of client engagements. This involves connecting with clients to understand their needs and explaining how we can assist, collaborate with foreign EY offices to gather information, drafting, sharing, and discussing deliverables with the client, and providing ongoing support with administrative tasks throughout the engagement, such as managing engagement economics and drafting invoices to our clients.
+ Your work can divide between:
+ Automations support: Support our clients to correctly implement and configure their systems so their systems compliant with all the relevant VAT rules for both accounts payable (VAT input, accounting, etc.) and receivable (e.g., automatically issue an invoice with the correct VAT rate.) and reporting.
+ Advisory services: Advice on client’s activities and supply chains. This work may include reviewing agreements, writing technical advisory memos or e-mails (that are that are technically sound yet concise), drafting transaction flows in ppt diagrams, review and manipulate Excel data, etc.:
+ Compliance & Reporting: Support clients with their VAT compliance and reporting outside the US, this includes monitor and communicate about filing deadlines, request and review data and review VAT returns prepared by our Global Delivery Services Team.
+ Develop an understanding of general VAT principles and specifics about VAT systems worldwide, enhance your technical competence, stay updated on trends and VAT technical developments, and apply this knowledge to your clients’ businesses.
+ Manage multiple projects simultaneously, requiring effective prioritization of tasks and diligent tracking of open items across the various projects you work on.
+ Contribute to the team’s success by developing a thorough understanding of EY’s methodologies and tools to enhance service delivery.
**Job requirements and preferences**
**Required qualifications**
+ A predicted undergraduate or graduate degree with a concentration in Finance, Economics, International Business, or a related field; or an advanced degree in Tax or Law; supported by a strong academic record.
+ Have an interest in international business and taxation.
+ Demonstrate interest in learning about VAT and actively invest time in your personal development.
+ Comfortable to work on topics you’re unfamiliar with, but you’re eager to understand and grasp them.
+ Excellent communication skills, proficiency in basic MS Office tools, and strong writing skills, with business fluency in the English language.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
+ The ability and willingness to travel and work in excess of standard hours when necessary.
+ Access to reliable transportation to/from the EY office and client sites.
