The University of Miami UHealth Operations and Experience Department is currently seeking an intern. UHealth’s Administrative Internship is a 10-week, part-time, hourly program that prepares emerging undergraduate and graduate students in health management for the complexities of hospital administration within a premier academic health system. The program blends hands-on learning with mentorship, offering interns the chance to participate in impactful change while developing core skills in healthcare management.

Core Job Functions:

Performs assigned tasks and projects.

Provides clerical, research, professional or technical support to assigned division.

Adheres to all company policies and procedures.

Meets or exceeds applicable goals and deadlines.

Develops relationships with department staff and other parties to carry out job functions.

Keeps supervising staff members informed of work progress and any issues encountered.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).

Ability to operate a motor vehicle

Valid State of Florida driver’s license

Department Specific Functions:

Lead a specific project focused on operational efficiency, patient satisfaction, or process improvement. Present findings and actionable recommendations to UHealth Department leaders at the end of the internship. Collaborate directly with UHealth teams to gain hands-on experience in hospital operations, decision-making, and leadership strategies. Work closely with Director-level mentor(s), receiving career guidance, industry insights, and personalized advice to foster professional development. Attend and participate in regular project meetings with the UHealth Department, to observe and understand the decision-making process, gaining valuable insights into strategic and functional aspects of hospital operations. Assist in greeting patients warmly and professionally, clearly communicating each step of care or interaction, and ensuring a positive experience throughout. Collaborate with colleagues and site management to resolve patient inquiries or issues promptly, contributing to a positive overall patient experience. Anticipate patient needs and assist in service recovery efforts, escalating concerns to leadership as needed to ensure timely resolution. Share ideas and identify opportunities for improving patient experience and access, providing feedback to leadership for ongoing enhancements. Conduct research and benchmark best practices in healthcare operations and patient experience to support ongoing projects and strategic initiatives, ensuring UHealth stays aligned with industry standards and innovation. Analyze data and develop visualizations to support UHealth's strategic initiatives and projects, helping translate complex data into actionable insights for decision-making.

Department Specific Qualifications                                                                                     

Education:

Undergraduate or graduate students pursuing degrees in healthcare management, public health, business, or related fields.  A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 is required to be considered for the program.

Certification and Licensing:

Not applicable.

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.

Knowledgeable of Microsoft Suite Programs, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Visio, etc.
