Turret Mechanic
Please note: This posting is in anticipation of future openings. This is not posted for a currently vacant open position. **Purpose and Scope:** The Tank Turret Mechanic is experienced in Ground Support equipment systems troubleshooting and repairs. The mechanic is capable of working in his/her specialty with supervision. **Essential Responsibilities:** Performs direct maintenance repairs on the mechanisms/systems of tank turrets/weapons fighting vehicles, and other infantry weapons including inspection, repair. Adjust major integrated electronic systems such as main gun and missile fire control; integrated optical sighting systems, inertial navigation and GPS systems and various computer systems. Performs inspection and repair of gun mounts; inspects and repairs elevation and traverse mechanism systems including gear boxes, motors and race rings. Serves as in shop and field contact mechanic and inspector of combat weapons systems such as MIA11 MlAlED, M1A2; MlA2SEP; M109A5 and A6; M2; M3; M901; M198 and various prototype vehicles, such as the battle command vehicle. Converse with equipment operators to ascertain problems with equipment before breakdown, and to determine if breakdown is down to human error or mechanical problems. Provide technical advice and assist in the assembling and disassembling of the mechanisms and systems of turrets, cupolas, tank weapons, and self-propelled artillery. Repair electronic equipment such as computers, industrial controls, audio and video systems, radar systems, telemeter, and missile control systems, transmitters, antennas, and servomechanisms, following blueprints and manufacturer's specifications as well as using hand tools and test instruments. Inspects, tests, adjusts components to specific tolerances. Determines shortcomings and malfunctions in electronic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, optical, and electromechanical assemblies, sub-assemblies, modules and circuit elements with common and system design test equipment. Responsible for repairs of unserviceable items by removing and replacing defective components and parts and replacing defective components and wiring. Assists in correcting malfunctions on the mechanism / systems of turrets, armament weapons, and cupolas. Inspects and troubleshoots fire control systems components, towed artillery fire control systems, and tank armament systems. Provides technical advice and assists in assembling and disassembling the mechanisms of all line replaceable units in track vehicles. Test faulty equipment and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction. Tests electronic components and circuits to locate defects, using, and oscilloscopes signal generators, ammeters and voltmeters. Aligns, adjusts, and calibrates equipment according to specifications. May enter information into computer to copy program from electronic component to another, or to draw, modify or to store schematics, applying knowledge of software packages used.~ **Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:** + Must have a minimum of three (3) years maintenance experience on vehicular-mounted armament and tank turrets. + High School graduate or equivalent. + Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location. + Possess a valid state issued driver’s license. + Must be available to work any shift. Willing to work weekends and other hours as needed. + Thorough knowledge of Army technical publications helpful. **Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:** Extreme danger, stress, physical hardships and possible field living conditions associated with this position within a desert camp complex. Ability to function during an extended assignment at a foreign, in-country facility exposed to seasonal temperature extremes. Ability to cope with shared cafeteria, bath and sleeping quarters. Must be able to walk, kneel, bend and stoop, and have correctable vision. Employee will be supervised by the Site Manager or senior Human Resources personnel.
