Position Description
Located in Metro Water Services, this position performs skilled work involved in operating a water/wastewater treatment plant and its facilities to produce a water/ wastewater product that is in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations. Performs related duties as required.
Employee works in both office and plant environments. Employees in this classification are exposed to weather extremes, possible chemical or electrical hazards, and a variety of biological contaminants. Work requires good physical conditioning for walking and climbing stairs and ladders. Employee may work various shifts, holidays, weekends and requires 24 hour availability to assist in emergency situations.

Employees at Metro Water Services (MWS) work around the clock to ensure high quality drinking water, and the best in storm water management and wastewater treatment for the residents of Nashville-Davidson County and some surrounding areas. It takes electricians, chemists, engineers, mechanics, information technology workers, customer service representatives and more working together to service more than 212,000 water, 224,000 stormwater and 216,000 sewer accounts.
Typical Duties
+ Participates in the daily operation of a water/wastewater treatment plant.
+ Performs chemical analysis of water/wastewater products.
+ Tests all waters as prescribed by analytical procedures established by supervisors and regulating agencies.
+ May supervise lab testing of water or wastewater.
+ Records test results and other pertinent data.
+ Ensures chemical feeds and supplies are at adequate levels.
+ Conducts inspections and initiates prescribed procedures on equipment that is in service on an hourly basis.
+ Monitors panel boards and makes needed adjustments.
+ Cleans filters, pumps, motors, presses, laboratory and chemical feed areas.
+ Checks motors, rings, bearings, water seals, pumps, valves, delivery lines, and other equipment.
+ Polishes brass.
+ Maintains work areas and tools, equipment.
+ Operates pumps, motors, and various other water/wastewater treatment plant equipment.
+ Routinely checks oil in motors and bearings of operating units.
+ Ensures all chemicals used are properly fed.
+ Monitors control panel and switches from one system to another as needed.
+ Records pump and KWH readings.
+ Maintains various logs and other records.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Licenses Required
Valid Driver's License may be required in some positions

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
