Posting is for two Transportation Worker III positions located in Moore County Traffic Services. Position Nos. 60020511 and 60020514 will be filled from this posting. You only need to apply once to be considered for both positions. Employee hired into these positions will work on the Paint Crew and will perform various manual tasks as directed, including, but not limited to: special marking, pavement markers, pavement markings, daytime and nighttime inspections, maintaining daily records, work accomplished, and responding to day and night time emergencies, detours, and road closures. Apply proper traffic control techniques and deploy message and arrow boards when needed. Must be able to use forklift and have the ability to climb and use ladders. Employee in this position should be able to operate paint truck, front and back, clean and repair guns and keep truck in good working order. Employee should also be able to operate special marking and other equipment as needed. Additional abilities include using hand tools, power tools, bush axe, shovel, weed cutter, tree limb cutter, sledge hammer, and other items as necessary. Employee is expected to perform assigned tasks and follow oral and written instructions as directed by supervisor. Work requires ability to climb, bend, traverse steep and uneven terrain, work in heavy traffic and traffic moving at high speed, and exposure to extreme temperature conditions. Work may include lifting up to 50lbs repeatedly and exerting up 100lbs of force occasionally. Position is subject to emergency call back and may require work during nontraditional work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Position will be required to work traffic control at special events and may be required to work in other counties throughout the Division.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

+ Demonstrated ability to operate a centerline paint gun
+ Demonstrated ability to operate a paint machine and maintain sign equipment
+ Experience in disassembling, cleaning and repairing spray devices and components parts for pavement marking machines
+ Demonstrated ability to safely operate both of the following pieces of equipment: reline paint machine, sign truck with attachments or truck with aerial device.
+ Knowledge in Advance Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety practices
Additional Expectations:
The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Release forms ALCDRG-01 and ALCDRG-06 must be signed allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol. Safety toe footwear required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development diploma and five years of experience operating equipment directly related to the area of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
