Transportation Supervisor - Feed Mill

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Primarily responsible for supervising feed mill dispatch team in day to day activities. This role will work with 3rd party trucking company to coordinate loads, times etc. of deliveries in order to achieve the most efficient and effective deliveries in compliance with all company policies, FSMA regulations, and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:             

Supervise a team of feed mill dispatchers in the day to day activities the scheduling or delivery and pickup of feed to/from growersOversee dispatched feed loads to ensure correct feed formula is shipped to growers; review and reconcile ticketsAct as liaison between dispatch and feed haul contractors to ensure prompt and accurate feed deliveries and returns; facilitate communication to ensure orders are accurate and delivered as neededEnsure daily reporting is accurately completed and recorded as required (i.e. departmental reports, attendance/staffing, yields, etc.)Identify and communicate opportunities for process optimization and/or reduce/eliminate repeat deficienciesLead or participate in the planning and implementation of process improvements, monitor improvement metrics and respond to unfavorable trendsMentor, coach and train/ cross-train employees encouraging career development; provide consistent feedback concerning strengths and areas in need of improvementAdminister performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions on a fair and consistent basisPartner with Quality Assurance to ensure compliance with all company policies, FSMA regulation, and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulationsFollow and promote all safety initiatives, (i.e. wear and ensure others wear appropriate PPE in area where mandatory)  helping to maintain a zero accident cultureWork corroboratively with other departments/shifts ensuring departmental or location goals are met or exceededPerform all other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Indirect supervision of 2 – 5 hourly employees, and contract Truck DriversThis is a Leader of People position with required competencies: Delegation, Conflict Management, Planning, Sizing Up People and Customer Focus

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s Degree in related field from an accredited institution preferred

EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:

Minimum three (3) years’ clerical experience within a feed mill or similar manufacturing environmentDemonstrated minimum one (1) years’ leadership/supervisory experience including knowledge of timekeeping requirements, policy adherence, Top 25 behaviors, conflict resolution and  the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively; three (3) years’ experience preferredKnowledge of DOT rules and RegulationsMust have the ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbal and written, with internal and external customers in a timely and professional manner; ability to communicate in multiple languages preferredStrong attention to detail, organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projectsProficient computer and math skillsSelf-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and sense of urgency, with the ability to work in a fast paced environmentStrong organizational skills

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

Follow and ensure others follow departmental and company safety policies and programsWear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended shift hours as neededExposure to dusty and hot environment.Ability to climb stairs and ladders.Occasional reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crawling.Frequently sit for long periods of time utilizing office equipment and/or computers.Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
