What are we looking for in a strong Transportation Supervisor?

 

Good leadership skills, personable/good communication skills, strong relationship builder, multi-tasker, coach, fair and consistent management style, strong computer skills (Microsoft Office), ability to use various platforms for information management (handheld scanners, phones, electronic log devices, etc.). Experience with Omnitracs and/or Samsara a plus.

Experience using Warehouse management systemshave the ability to coach, train, and handle day to day disputesBe punctual, on time, and understand and align with our creed and valuesNo employment gaps with-in the last year and have 5 years of recent employment history.Food distribution or similar distribution Supervisor experience preferred.CDL A license a plus but not required.Excel savvy and systems savvy experience preferred.

 

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:  Supervises day-to-day transportation functions to ensure driver performance, customer satisfaction, and that Department and Company objectives for efficiency, reliability, and productivity are met or exceeded.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Plans, implements, and monitors day-to-day transportation operations, including analysis of on-time reports, delivery reliability, off-load rate, and manpower needs. (25%)Reviews and schedules daily routing of equipment and manpower to meet customer needs in terms of contractual guidelines, special deliveries, supplemental deliveries, opening orders, etc. (20%)Resolves equipment failures or break-downs, providing advice and assistance to drivers, as well as submitting appropriate reports to leasing/maintenance provider for service and repair. (15%) Motivates employees, including performance evaluation, counseling, and problem resolution, to achieve a positive work environment. (20%)Supervises employees, including interpretation of rules in a union work environment, conflict resolution, and disciplinary action as required. (10%)Updates routing programs (XATA, CADEC) on a daily basis, including review of drivers’ on-board computer reports to ensure that goals for efficiency and timeliness are met. (10%)Performs other related and assigned duties as necessary.

Supervises up to 100 or more employees, including hourly staff.  Oversees operations with significant impact on GSF customer relations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Education and experience equivalent to:

 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in management, business, or psychology from an accredited college or university.

 

Experience:

3 to 6 years of work experience in transportation or food distribution, including supervisory responsibilities and union work environments.
