DESCRIPTION
The Michael Baker New Jersey Operations has an open position for a Transportation Associate in the Transportation Planning and Conceptual Design Department. Successful candidates will join a collaboration of experienced planners, engineers, and project managers dedicated to having a positive impact through effective planning. The ideal candidate will be driven, intellectually curious, committed to excellence, and demonstrate a desire to make a difference in the communities we serve. The Associate will support project senior planners, project managers, and engineers on multi-disciplinary planning and concept level engineering projects and will be responsible for the preparation of planning documents for federal, state, and local government clients, as well as private sector clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Providing multimodal transportation planning support in one or more of the following modes: surface transportation, public transportation, bicycle and pedestrian, ports and waterways, rail freight, and aviation. Conducting analytical research on transportation policy and public transportation programs and issues. Working closely with county and local governments to promote community and economic development through comprehensive plans, redevelopment strategies, master plans, and related urban and rural planning initiatives. Conducting data research to prepare community profiles on land use, socioeconomic trends, housing and real estate market conditions, and related topics. Developing and maintaining project databases utilizing MS Excel, MS Access, and MS SQL server. Preparing technical reports, plans, and studies. This includes developing associated graphics, templates, and maps. Serving as a community engagement specialist to promote planning efforts and solicit public input. Conducting field work as required.PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering 2-5 years of progressive traffic engineering/transportation planning experience Familiarity and experience with New Jersey DOT, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and New Jersey Turnpike Authority project development process and design standards is highly desirable Familiarity with NY State and NY City DOT standards and process is also desirable. Experience in preparing Preliminary Engineering or Final Design Plans is preferred Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate and be on-track to obtain a PE License within one year, applicable. PE License in NJ and/or NY desirable The ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments independently under limited supervision Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products Experience in traffic engineering/transportation planning software such as AUTOCAD, Bentley MicroStation, HCS, Synchro, SimTraffic, Vissim, and ArcGIS is desirableCOMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $74,141 to $107,060. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
