Transmission Line Engineer
Job Title: Transmission Line EngineerJob Description In this role, you will have the opportunity to become an expert on the transmission system rather than just focusing on isolated projects. This position involves improving the reliability and resiliency of the grid on both local and regional levels. You will have opportunities for drivable site visits before, during, and after the construction of projects. Additionally, you will create or contribute to technical tools, policies, and procedures related to your interests. Engaging with high-profile customers to bring new green generation to the grid and providing new data farms, manufacturing, and other new technology to our communities are key aspects of this role. Ensuring that the Bulk Electric System can withstand extreme weather events and meet the electric demand of our customers and the Southwest Power Pool is crucial. You will have the autonomy to be a trusted decision-maker on your projects while receiving support from an experienced, helpful team. Meeting customers face to face at project “open house” events where professionals provide information and answer questions from the community is also part of this role. Responsibilities + Improve reliability and resiliency of the grid on both local and regional levels. + Conduct drivable site visits before, during, and after the construction of projects. + Create or contribute to technical tools, policies, and procedures. + Engage with high-profile customers to bring new green generation to the grid. + Ensure the Bulk Electric System can withstand extreme weather events and meet electric demand. + Make autonomous decisions on projects while receiving support from an experienced team. + Meet customers face to face at project “open house” events to provide information and answer questions. Essential Skills + Proficiency in PLS-CADD/PLS-POLE, foundation design software such as MFAD or LPile, and AutoCAD. + Working knowledge of power systems. + Proficiency in the use of spreadsheets, word processing, and database software. + Working knowledge of all governing codes and regulations, including the National Electric Safety Code. + Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. + Civil Engineering degree preferred. + Engineering in Training (EIT) certification required for Sr. Engineer. Additional Skills & Qualifications + 2 or more years of engineering experience for Engineer II. + 4 or more years of engineering experience for Staff Engineer. + 8 or more years of engineering experience, active industry committee membership or publications, or demonstrated team leadership for Sr. Engineer. + 14 or more years of engineering experience with Professional Engineering license preferred for Lead Engineer. + 20 or more years of engineering experience with Professional Engineering license required and advanced technical degree preferred for Principal Engineer. + Inquisitive, detail-oriented, and critical thinking mindset. + Effective organizational skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. + Ability to evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Work Environment Scheduled work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with flexible work arrangements upon manager approval, generally including up to two days working from home. Working conditions will vary from office to substation and transmission line field environments. Must be able to work additional hours on short notice in office and field settings through normal and severe weather conditions.
