Visit www.cdc.gov Responsibilities As a Translator (Recent Graduate), you will: Provide language consultation in the development of written foreign language materials (may include working with CDC subject matter experts, research, or working from scientific literature or other health communication materials). Develop documents for a variety of audiences including public health professionals as well as the general public and population segments within (e.g. youth, parents, etc.). Coordinate the translation of documents into other languages done by outsourced vendors, ensure that the materials are delivered on time, in the right format, and with the highest quality, and keep detailed records of costs, deliveries, topics, and other key data. Deliver accurate translations of scientific and health communication materials including reports, factsheets, articles, communication campaign materials, and scripts for audio and visual products. Ensure that the translation is accurate and culturally representative for a variety of audiences including health communicators, public health professionals, health scientists, and general public. Requirements Conditions of Employment Due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) process enhancement to use Shared Certificates throughout the Agency, some of the requirements below may differ: Must have completed a qualifying degree from an accredited institution within the previous 2 years. Veterans who have completed a degree and have an intervening period of obligated service in uniformed services, have a full 2-year eligibility period upon discharge/release from service and must be within 6 years of degree completion. Individuals are eligible to apply up to 9 months prior to completing their education requirements but must meet eligibility requirements by appointment date. US Citizenship required. Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service (http://www.sss.gov). May be subject to a Background/Security Investigation. Security clearance level may differ from the position announced when certificates are shared. CDC participates in the USCIS Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify). If selected, CDC will determine your employment eligibility using your social security number. Direct deposit is required. A two-year trial/probationary period may be required upon selection/placement. This position may be subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Must be proficient with speaking, reading and writing in Spanish and English. Qualifications Degree Requirements: This appointment will be made under the Pathways Recent Graduate hiring authority. To be eligible an applicant must have received a qualifying degree within 2 years of applying for employment under this authority. Note: For applicants who have completed a degree and have an intervening period of obligated service in the uniformed services, the 2-year eligibility period begins on the date of the applicant's discharge or release from the uniformed service. The eligibility period for veterans must be within 6 years of degree completion. Individuals are eligible to apply to the Recent Graduates Program up to nine (9) months prior to completing their education requirements but are required to meet eligibility requirements by the appointment date. AND Minimum Qualifications: GS-09: To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level, which must include the following experience: translating/interpreting, (specifically English to Spanish); or a combination of work (that required English to Spanish) and training at the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Service Institute, or comparable training. The following are examples of work in the required language that may have provided the required abilities: translating/interpreting biomedical, science, and health communication materials from English to Spanish (in this specific language combination); producing accurate and culturally appropriate translations of technical and non-technical vocabulary following current language conventions (i.e., correct grammar, syntax, and spelling); using industry-standard translation software (i.e. Trados Studio) that includes the use of translation memories and Termbases; professional experience in translation coordination. OR Have completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree with a major study in the appropriate foreign language from an English-speaking college or university, English from a college or university in the other country or translating or interpreting where English and the foreign language were prerequisites. OR Have completed 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in the appropriate foreign language from an English-speaking college or university, English from a college or university in the other country or translating or interpreting where English and the foreign language were prerequisites; or LL.B. or J.D., if related to the position. OR Have a combination of post-secondary education and specialized experience that together meets 100% of the qualification requirement for this position. GS-11: To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level, which must include the following experience: translating, interpreting (specifically English to Spanish); or a combination of work (that required English to Spanish) and training at the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Service Institute, or comparable training. OR Have completed 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in the appropriate foreign language from an English-speaking college or university, English from a college or university in the other country or translating or interpreting where English and the foreign language were prerequisites; or LL.M., if related to the position. OR Have a combination of post-secondary education and specialized experience that together meets 100% of the qualification requirement for this position. Additional Information The Recent Graduates Program (RGP) offers developmental experiences in the Federal Government to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs.
