Transfer Initiatives and Partnerships Specialist
Housed in the Enrollment division, this newly created position will strengthen the University of Virginia’s service to the Commonwealth and commitment to access. Reporting to the Senior Transfer Counselor, the Transfer Initiatives and Partnership Specialist will facilitate and strengthen the transfer pathway for Virginia Community College students to transition to UVA. The Transfer Initiatives and Partnerships Specialist will provide comprehensive support to prospective transfer students, especially those who are eligible for federal Pell Grants, from Virginia Community Colleges, focusing on supporting transfer pathways and facilitating successful transitions. This role involves collaboration with UVA schools, academic and student service departments, and Virginia Community College partners to streamline the transfer process and enhance the overall student experience.
The Enrollment division at UVA includes the Office of Undergraduate Admission, the Office of the University Registrar, Student Financial Services, and Commonwealth Partnerships. The Transfer Initiatives and Partnership Specialist will join engaged, innovative colleagues working collaboratively to compete for talented students from all walks of life and to care for students from their first interaction with the University through Final Exercises and beyond.
The ideal candidate will:
Have experience in student advising, particularly with transfer students and/or in a community college setting Knowledge of Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Understanding of common barriers related to the transfer student experience Demonstrate superior organizational and communications skills Enjoy designing and presenting information sessions Collaborate effectively with colleagues in multiple geographic locations Think creatively about inclusive and accessible ways to reach and support students Respectfully and effectively communicate and engage with individuals from diverse and varying backgrounds.Key Responsibilities
Transfer Pathway Support:
In partnership with UVA academic departments, develop and maintain clear transfer pathway guides that outline credit transfer requirements for prospective transfer students.
Collaborate with UVA academic departments to encourage processes and resources that support student transitions.
Student Advising and Engagement:
Provide individualized attention to VCCS prospective transfer students regarding UVA transfer options, admission requirements, and success resources.
Conduct workshops and information sessions to educate students about the transfer process, requirements, and available resources.
Collaboration and Outreach:
Establish and nurture relationships with Virginia Community Colleges to promote transfer opportunities and create effective partnerships.
Work with community college advisors to facilitate helpful communication and support for prospective transfer students.
Data Management and Reporting:
Track and analyze data related to transfer student demographics, enrollment trends, and success rates to inform program development.
Prepare reports and presentations on transfer pathways and student outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
Advocacy:
Advocate for the needs and concerns of transfer students within the institution and the broader higher education community.
Support policy development related to transfer student services and community college partnerships.
This position is hybrid and includes some travel to VCCS campus locations and to UVA, as well as remote work. The position will remain open until filled, with a target start date in January 2025. Review of applications begins November 25, 2024.
This is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Grant funding is currently secured through June 2028. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 commensurate with education, experience, and demonstrated past performance. Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree required. Additional experience will be required in lieu of a degree.
Experience: Two years of experience required with a Bachelor's degree. Six years of experience required with a High School degree or equivalent.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
