Jacobs is seeking a Traffic Engineer II to join the Traffic Engineering Services Division (TES) at the City of Centennial project, where exciting opportunities exist for a mid-level engineer who may be relatively new to, or more experienced in, municipal traffic engineering. This position provides an opportunity to gain very valuable experience in traffic and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) operations and advance your career in transportation engineering. At Centennial you will have a hand in the ongoing smart community development using the latest technologies in advanced traffic management systems and applications. Centennial has a resident population of approximately 110,000 and has developed a reputation as a leader in the southeast Denver-metro region at the forefront of cutting-edge technology.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, conducting transportation engineering studies; managing consultants and/or contractors to design and/or implement multimodal traffic engineering, operations, and ITS projects; assisting in the operation of a central traffic signal system and communication network; safety reviews and analysis; constituent responses and other public facing interactions; and assisting with the asset inventory and management of traffic operations field devices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Under general supervision from the City Traffic Engineer, applies engineering techniques and analyses to address constituent concerns and solve problems
• Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, codes, regulations; conducts research and maintains an awareness of new issues, methods, equipment, trends and advances in the profession
• Performs analyses and surveys of traffic conditions, traffic volume and turning-movements, crash analyses, school traffic safety, neighborhood traffic issues, temporary traffic control plans, and recommends innovative solutions
• Assists with traffic engineering review of development applications, traffic studies, traffic control plans, and other traffic and transportation engineering related items
• Prepares and submits reports to the City
• Assists in operating the City’s traffic signal system, including acquiring the necessary skills through training and mentoring to develop and implement timing plans for individual signals and signal coordination plans for corridors
• May manage consultants and contractors for design and/or construction of traffic related items such as traffic signal design, planning and alternatives studies, signing and striping installations, data collection, fiber design, etc.
• Assist in the implementation of ITS pilots and other related projects
• Prepares grant applications including analyzing current and future traffic needs to determine the improvements necessary and enhance public safety
• Receives and responds to traffic and transportation concerns and issues; determines and recommends appropriate resolutions from an engineering perspective to maintain positive community/customer relations; may design and manage construction of traffic calming projects
• Participates in meetings with other City departments, City Council, outside agencies, commissions, and citizen groups for coordination and collaboration purposes
• May act as a lead worker for other staff - supervisory opportunity may also be available depending on qualifications and experience
• Performs other similar duties as assigned
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, transportation, or other related field
• Minimum three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in traffic engineering
• Professional Engineer’s license in Colorado (or ability to obtain by reciprocity within 6 months)
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Strong interpersonal relationship skills with the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other employees, government officials, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and the general public

The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
