Purpose of Job Finalizes and submits comments on proposed regulatory/industry association matters on behalf of Sasol Chemicals.  Authorizes and directs toxicity testing conducted on behalf of the company.  Represents Sasol Chemicals in interactions with appropriate government agencies globally as required.  Provides technical assistance to customers (internal and external) on product safety and occupational health issues.   While the position is not responsible directly for the operating profit of the company, decisions indirectly may significantly influence the companies’ earnings short- and longer term. The results may therefore have a significant effect on Sasol’s strategic orientation and a major impact on Sasol’s revenues. Key Accountabilities

• Providing assistance in ensuring that the products of Sasol Chemicals, in accordance with Sasol's strategy and objectives, can be produced, utilized and marketed without posing any risk to humans and the environment. • Conducting hazard assessments for Sasol Chemicals products. • Assessing the risk to humans and the environment in connection with the development, production, marketing, utilization and disposal of Sasol's products and, if any potential risks are identified, developing strategies to mitigate such risks. • Initiating and monitoring company-sponsored toxicity studies on Sasol Chemicals products. • Monitoring health effects information and related regulatory developments, trends, and evaluates their impact on Sasol Chemicals products. • Providing assistance in ensuring and implementing the general framework for safe production and marketing of Sasol Chemicals products, taking health, safety and environmental aspects as key criteria into account. • Representing Sasol’s interests in national and international industrial associations as well as science, government and industry committees to achieve divisional as well as overall company objectives. • Monitoring, communicating, coordinating responses and providing technical assistance to internal and external Sasol Chemicals customers on Product Safety and Occupational Health. • Co-operating in the planning and implementation of strategies aimed at ensuring sustained marketability of Sasol Chemicals products in the event of changes in the environmental and regulatory framework. • Coordinating the preparation and submittal of global notifications and registrations (including Pre Manufacture Notifications (PMN) in the United States, New Substance Notifications in Canada and REACH registrations in Europe) for Sasol Chemicals products. • Coordinating the utilization of outside consulting services for Global Product Safety projects such as product registrations and submissions. • Representing Sasol Chemicals in registration and testing consortia (e.g. REACH), ensuring that Sasol’s interests are considered. • Leading multi-disciplinary project teams as assigned. • Preparing and exchanging information with toxicology and eco-toxicology experts from academia, government agencies, customers and industry in order to assess the inherent properties of substances with the overall aim of securing Sasol’s market position in accordance with the principles of “responsible care”.

Formal Education Post Graduate Doctoral Degree in Toxicology Required Personal/Professional Skills Knowledge of international chemicals legislation and regulations Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) Ability to work independently, ability to work in a team
