This National Guard position is for a TITLE 32 AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (MI AASF 2), Position Description Number NGD0734000 and is part of the MI AASF 2, Michigan Army National Guard. Responsibilities ***THIS IS A TITLE 32 NATIONAL GUARD POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP*** The purpose of this position is to supervise workers, either directly or through one or more subordinate leaders and/or supervisors, in accomplishing the operations of a distinct organizational unit and to perform associated nonsupervisory work. The occupation and nonsupervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the overall work operations supervised is Aircraft Mechanic,WG-8852-10. 1. Planning: Plans weekly or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations. Establishes deadlines and priorities based on established general schedules, methods and policies. Determines skills, materials and equipment required to do the work. 2. Work Direction: Assigns tasks to be performed. Explains work requirements, methods, and procedures. Instructs subordinates on new procedures or methods and provides assistance on difficult or new problem areas. Reviews work in progress or on completion. 3. Administration: Recommends and participates in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies. Schedules and approves leave of subordinates. Sets performance requirements and makes formal and informal performance appraisals. 4. Performs the nonsupervisory work of the function as needed. 5. Implements regulatory safety requirements and ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. 6. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. Military Grades: E5 - E7 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations. Responsibility for performing, coordinating and/or overseeing the work and any periodic inspections to be done on an aircraft whether it is alone, or with the assistance of other mechanics and/or workers. The grade 11 also is responsible for coordinating the work of other journey-level workers in other trades to work simultaneously on the aircraft. As compared to grade 10 aircraft mechanics who install, adjust, align, and troubleshoot a variety of major aircraft systems, grade 11 aircraft mechanics serve as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs to their assigned aircraft. They determine when the nature and scope of repair involves other trades, e.g., engine mechanics, electricians, electronics mechanics, or integrated systems mechanics and coordinate the work of these individuals with the other trades. Grade 11 aircraft mechanics check/review the work of other trades to ensure completion. They conduct functional tests of repairs/modifications to ensure proper operation. They report malfunctions to appropriate personnel and schedule follow-up work. They are responsible for grounding an aircraft when the severity of a malfunction warrants it and may be responsible for releasing the aircraft to service after repairs are completed and tested. Additional Information Military Requirements: For Dual-Status Technician positions service affiliation under Title 32 USC 709 is required. Military skill set is determined by AFSC/MOS requirements. Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC/MOS per statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the AFSC/MOS.
