Job Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for removing, repairing, and replacing damaged tires on automotive vehicles and heavy equipment. Exercises no supervision.
This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Work Schedule
Possible schedules are listed below.
+ 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 p.m. Monday - Friday OR
+ 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday
Essential Job Functions
+ Removes and replaces worn or defective tires on automobiles, trucks, light and heavy equipment.
+ Cleans and maintains tools, equipment, and work area.
+ Removes wheels from vehicle by hand or uses power hoist to repair giant tires of heavy equipment and frequently lifting/carrying of up to 100 pounds.
+ Locates puncture in tires by visual inspection or water immersion.
+ Seals puncture or repairs ruptures by using adhesive material, tire patches, or rubber cement.
+ Operates tire breaking and tire balancing machine.
+ Picks up, delivers, and repairs tires for all City centers.
+ Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
+ Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
+ One (1) year of tire shop attendant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Knowledge of tools and equipment used for tire replacements and repairs.
+ Knowledge of wheel balancing procedures.
+ Ability to remove, repair, and replace tires on automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment.
+ Ability to frequently lift and carry 75 pounds.

+ Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
+ Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

+ Knowledge of tools and equipment used for tire replacements and repairs.
+ Knowledge of wheel balancing procedures.
+ Ability to remove, repair, and replace tires on automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment.
+ Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
+ Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position with or without accommodations.
+ Working conditions are inside a shop environment with exposure to dust, noise, dangerous equipment, materials and temperature variations.
