Your New Role: 

This position is part of a high functioning team responsible for the review, editing, reformatting, and finishing of timed text materials for multiple Warner Bros. Discovery groups that includes, but is not limited to, linear networks (Discovery, HGTV, The Food Network, etc), downstream digital/OTT partners (Max, Discovery +, iTunes, Google, Amazon, etc), and internal departments (Localization, Mastering, Servicing, etc). The group primarily covers episodic and short form content as well as a variety of marketing materials. The team is responsible for providing final accessibility materials and operational documents to partners, while contributing to client support strategies and adapting to a fast-changing industry with  new technologies. This role also is also expected to provide periodic feedback on toolsets, contribute ideas for innovation, contribute thoughts for process improvement and implementing change. 

Your Role Accountabilities: 

Editorial and Finishing: Utilizing in house tooling and software, review and finish English timed text files provided by internal and/or external sources to ensure adherence to end-client and/or regulatory requirements (e.g. governmental, network/Post Production/Localization specifications, nonlinear partner guidelines) 

Coordinates with manager and other staff to complete each day's schedule. 

Utilizes production materials with internal tracking tools for work queue management. 

Edit timed text materials to ensure match of program audio and time code; this may include correcting discrepancies/errors between supplied timed text and program audio or modifying text based on technical requirements and partner specifications. 

Utilize internal databases and reference materials to research names, terms, locations, foreign phrases, etc. to ensure timed text accuracy 

Ensures work output complies with brand standards, department needs, and applicable regulations. 

Handles sensitive and confidential material appropriately & securely 

When needed, manually transcribe text from audio soundtrack of programs. 

Performs final review of timed text materials to confirm material is free of grammatical, spelling, formatting, and punctuation errors, ensuring proper positioning as appropriate. 

Innovation & Development: 

Contribute to new initiatives/workflows that support new business models  

Engage with and provide feedback on new technologies to further improve timed text efforts 

Perform special projects as necessary 

Personal training and development to improve skills and technical ability 

 

Administrative: 

Participates in team meetings 

Work with team Manager to assess appropriate self metrics 

Assist in compiling self and team metrics for reporting  

Qualifications & Experiences: 

Minimum 3 years experience in timed text, transcription, captioning, scripting, or related field 

Experience with timed text software (i.e. captioning, scripting, subtitling) 

Experience in production, broadcast, media accessibility, or other related fields  

Project management experience 

English must be the candidate’s primary language  

Excellent command of English is necessary, including understanding of grammar, idiomatic expressions, cultural references, homonyms, proper names, and slang. 

Superb listening skills to ensure timed text matches audio for both correctness and sync 

Attention to detail is crucial for noting various aspects of timed text including, but not limited to, the spoken word, audio cues, sound effects, and tone that need to be provided to viewers and end clients 

Strong skills in text editing and proofreading are necessary to ensure timed text are free of errors and grammatically correct. This also includes being able to format and present text in a clear and readable manner. 

Proficiency in project management, instant messaging, and productivity programs (i.e. Excel, Word, Slack) 

Ability to collaborate with internal and external peers 

Ability to adapt work pace and priorities in order to meet deadlines and goals in a fast-paced environment  

Ability to learn software, systems, and technical processes relevant to timed text production and administration  

Advanced typing speed (75wpm or more) would be preferred  

Strong organizational skills with the ability to act independently and responsibly  

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to exchange complex information related to assigned activities  

Employees will also perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned  

College preferred (but not essential), with emphasis on language studies, film or TV, communications or equivalent work experience. 

Familiarity with various standards and regulations related to timed text accessibility.
