Thoracic Surgeon, Open Rank
The Department of Surgery, Division of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for an open rank and track Thoracic Surgeon. Rank and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications and experience. The ideal candidate should have experience in the surgical management of all aspects of general thoracic surgery including lung transplantation. The successful candidate will have an interest in lung transplantation and minimally-invasive/robotic thoracic surgical procedures with a desire to expand these programs. An esophageal disease interest would be considered a plus. Job Duties: + Teaching - Teaching encompasses all activities that directly facilitate student and resident education, including weekly attendance and participation in teaching conferences, periodic lectures and ward teaching for students and residents, completion of evaluations. Resident teaching is of great importance to our program and culture here at UVA. + Research - The research component includes scholarly publication, presenting at academic conferences and submitting grants. + Service - University service involves membership and participation in departmental, hospital, and School of Medicine committees, attending departmental meetings, thoracic tumor board, division meetings, resident recruitment and interviews, timely completion of medical records, answering email, taking an equal share of on call time, and clinic visits. + In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
