POSITION SUMMARY:  

The position is responsible for the testing and trials of marine vessels, currently CCM and MSVL, to ensure all necessary requirements and regulations are met.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the safe operation of their vessel; must ensure it is operated and crewed according to both company and legal guidelines.Investigates any damage to the vessel, personal injuries of crew, and the environmental effects of the vessel; this includes monitoring any pollution and checking for oil spills around the vessel and at ports and harbors. As a Ship or Boat Captain, health and safety is a priority.Responsible for maintaining logs for all on-board equipment, including machinery, engines, and safety equipment, with regular inspection.Navigates the craft utilizing maps, radars, and lights by the use of electronic devices.Monitor daily progress of the vessel, observing speed, engine pressure and water depths, and signaling any passing ships is a key part of a Ship or Boat Captain’s role.Adherence to any budgets, the purchasing and loading of fuel, supplies, and equipment in your responsibility.Maintains full knowledge of the cargo carried by the vessel and answers any queries from USCG officials.Support the development of test and trials plans.Field Service Representative (FSR) action and support, as necessary, for vessels delivered by Vigor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None in general.  Responsible for vessel/crew when underway.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:  

USCG Masters License, minimum endorsement for passenger vessels under 100 Gross Tons. 500 GT preferred.Preferred: minimum of 5 years' experience in boat operation, customer relations, and record keeping.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE, DESIRED:

NMMA (National Marine Manufactures Assoc.) Standards Compliance CertificationExperience with high performance military craftAbility to navigate and water test large boats (over 50’ to 150’+)Able to safely launch and retrieve a boat at the dock (launch with trailer)Capable of running generators, A/C & D/C systems, and electronicsFamiliarity with vessel mechanical systems, including installation and troubleshootingSafe boating certification (Washington State Boater Education Card) or willing to obtain

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced setting with moderate to loud noise levels from either production activity or underway. While underway, frequent jarring or impacts do occur. 10% of the time is spent in a normal office environment, and up to 90% spent in and on marine craft. Must be able to walk in and around job sites. Must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders, enter confined areas and tanks, and work from heights. The incumbent must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl, twist, and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. May be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work.                                   

WORK ENVIRONMENT:    

Environment will include exposure to extreme weather conditions, as necessary to fully test and trial marine vessel, sometimes hundreds of miles offshore or on challenging inland waterways where rough or high physical impacts occur. Frequent stops or changes are not always possible.
