The Center works where people’s lives intersect with government and community organizations to illuminate the impact of public policy on the lives of individuals and communities. Our research focuses on what works, practical solutions, rigorous analysis, and provides real-time feedback for policymakers, providers, and communities. We have built a strong track record of creating change in the areas of education, child welfare, poverty, and juvenile justice.
The Institute for Transformative Mentoring (ITM) is a dynamic training program focused on the development of credible messengers (formerly incarcerated men and women) working in the social services fields throughout New York City. These mentors help young people navigate community violence and avoid the criminal justice system. Credible messengers are gaining systems-level recognition in New York City as an effective strategy to reduce crime and criminal justice involvement.
The Institute for Transformative Mentoring (ITM) Position: The part-time Community-Based Restorative Justice (CBRJ) Co-Facilitator & Mentor must have prior work experience working with court-involved youth or credible messengers. They will be skilled in co-facilitating, mentoring, curriculum development, documentation, event planning and coordination. This role is currently viewed as a part-time role. The Co-Facilitator & Mentor will attend designated ITM sessions to support course facilitation and provide mentorship guidance to participating students. They will assist in research and program documentation. Program documentation can include photography, video recording, written summaries and social media posting. The CBRJ Co-Facilitator & Mentor will work closely with the ITM Director and the CBRJ Project Manager. The CBRJ Co-Facilitator & Mentor reports to the ITM Director.
The CBRJ Co-Facilitator & Mentor will be hired to support the Community Based Restorative Justice project. They will not be expected to work without CBRJ project funding.
This position is funded by and contingent upon external fundraising.

RESPONSIBILITIESResponsibilities: Facilitate groups Support ITM events and workshops Support with weekly lesson planning Support with class administrative tasks such as attendance tracking and distribution of learning materials Support fellows with community-needs assessments Support the development and implementation of CBRJ community circles Support the fellows in community Assist with creating ITM event posters, promotional materials, videos etc. Assist program fellows with ad-hoc needs


WORK MODE Hybrid/Split – Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely.
COMPENSATIONThis is a part-time position with a pay rate of $28-$30/hr. Weekly hours will vary based on assigned project scope but may be 20-25 hours.
