**Job Description**
The selected candidate oversees or assists in the installation of structured cabling systems (fiber optic and copper) in building telecommunication closets while adhering to applicable standards and specifications. Up to 50% travel can be expected.
Responsibilities:
Installs, removes, maintains, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs voice and/or non-voice communications systems.
Ensures grounding and bonding are compliant with applicable standards and codes.
Ensures transmission fundamentals of copper and fiber media are maintained.
Troubleshoots entire communications system to determine if problems are related to hardware or cabling.
Tests and evaluates newly installed or existing hardware to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility.
Utilizes technical manuals and brochures to determine equipment which meets establishment requirements.
Compiles, reviews, and/or submits reports such as site reports or project status reports, as required by management.
Fabricates a variety of cable assemblies to include multi-conductor, coaxial, data and power cables in accordance with military and DOD standards.
Works with Quality Control, Engineering, and Project Managers to provide feedback and resolve issues that are focused on improving production quality.
Reads and interprets technical drawings for fabrication and installation of communication, network, and security systems.
Builds custom installation kits designed for offsite integrations.
The hourly rate for this position is set by the Dept of Labor and is not negotiable. Current rate is $29.09/hr.
This position is located in Chesapeake, Virginia. There is no relocation assistance available for this position. Applicants must be currently residing in or state willingness to relocate self to Chesapeake, Virginia or surrounding areas.
**Required Education, Experience, & Skills**
High school diploma with 1 year of relevant experience
Mechanical aptitude and experience with a range of hand and power tools
Ability to frequently work in a sitting, standing, or walking position
Ability to frequently lift and carry 10 pounds and occasionally lift and carry 50 pounds
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and work with hazardous material
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. state driver's/operator's license or permit
Ability to travel within the U.S. and overseas (up to 50%) and obtain a US passport, as required
Basic operational skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook and Excel
EMPLOYEE WILL BE REQUIRED TO HAVE A PERSONAL SET OF BASIC HAND TOOLS. LIST OF REQUIRED TOOLS WILL BE PROVIDED.
**Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills**
Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and instructions
Soldering and cable fabrication experience
Metal fabrication and assembly experience
Fiber / BICSI / NAVSEA Certifications
Networking / Audio / Visual / Teleconferencing experience
Commercial / Residential Electronic Security System experience
Commercial / Residential electrical or mechanical experience
OSHA 10/30 hour course (Maritime or General Industry)
Fall Protection Training for working at height
**Pay Information**
This position is covered by a wage law called the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range for this position is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
