Job DescriptionAs a Dams and & Hydropower Technologist it will be expected from the applicant to provide technical support in feasibility studies, design and inspections in the disciplines of dam structures and their foundations, dam materials, spillway design, hydraulic and flood hydrological analyses for a wide range of dam and hydropower projects in Africa and around the world.
The successful applicant will be required to undertake:
• Dam safety inspections.
• Designs of all types of dams, their foundations, bottom outlets and spillways.
• Quality assurance during the construction of dam projects.
• Preparation of project specifications, bill of quantities and tender documentation.
• Hydrological and hydraulic analysis of catchment runoff and watercourses.
• Hydraulic modelling and design of spillways and other hydraulic structures.
Minimum requirements
• 4 to 8 years of experience in similar roles - essential.
• Dam inspections, dam design or dam rehabilitation, dam break studies and emergency preparedness plans experiences - advantageous.
• Experience in hydrological studies, hydraulic analysis – advantageous.
• Experience in the design of hydraulic structures – advantageous.
• Knowledge of multi-disciplinary interfacing – advantageous.
• Experience in the use of drainage analysis and associated design software technology applications (e.g. HEC-RAS, Rocscience Slide, Geostudio, Autocad, Civil 3D, etc.) - highly advantageous.
• Experience in the Approved Professional Person Team– advantageous.
• Experience in construction supervision, applying dam engineering principles – advantageous.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Required:
Advanced Diploma or BTech in civil engineering, or equivalent.Minimum of 4 years' experience in dam engineering or related field.Professional Engineer status or working towards registration.Proficiency in hydraulic modelling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, Rocscience Slide, Geostudio).Strong knowledge of dam safety regulations and guidelines.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to work effectively in a team environment.Additional InformationAbout AECOM
