I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, and repairs various equipment and systems such as, but not limited to, medical gas systems, medical air pumps, compressors, vacuum pumps, alarm panels, valves, gauges, water purification systems, refrigeration systems, fire alarm systems, pneumatic tube system, laundry equipment, beds, stretchers, sterilizers, surgical instruments, kitchen appliances, etc.
2. Replaces light bulbs and related items. Assists with fire alarm system shut down, generator and electric testing as directed. Assists with major repairs and installation of equipment and systems.
3. Fabricates minor repair parts and components as required.
4. Troubleshoots, evaluates and identifies problems with mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems and responds appropriately.
5. May perform sheet metal cutting, welding, and soldering duties.
6. Accurately maintains all required records. Records all work not assigned on maintenance work log on computer system. Completes work slips. Calls in work orders for maintenance items that cannot be completed. Orders and maintains assigned supplies.
7. Maintains a clean and safe work area including all machine rooms. Practices proper care and safe use of maintenance tools, equipment and supplies. Adheres to safety standards, procedures, regulations and building codes. Reports all unsafe equipment and building related issues.
8. Responds to and assesses various calls and emergencies as required or directed.
9. Demonstrates customer focus skills and good interpersonal relationships.
10. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
11. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed.
12. Demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations.
13. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
14. Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
15. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
All responsibilities are essential job functions.
II. Position Qualifications:
Ability to read, write, calculate and follow instructions and procedures. Knowledge of basic plumbing, heating, electrical, and mechanical techniques and repair principles. Works from specifications, schedules, and general instructions requiring interpretation in various applications. Basic computer skills required. Reading (English), writing (English), and ability to utilize Computer to input work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Work Order System with minimal training within (60) days of employment required. One to three years experience. Trade school completion preferred.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements. Employees must be at least 18 years of age to perform this role.
Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies and their measurements, will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
Work is considered of medium physical demand. Position requires work both indoors and outdoors in a patient care environment.
