IAM Technical Writer

The opportunity 

Identity and Access Management (IAM) organization, a part of Information Security which, enables over 400,000 individuals across 140+ countries to access systems and information securely. As a member of the Identity and Access Management (IAM) team this position will contribute towards execution of an IAM roadmap that meets security requirements, including but not limited to security for, a complex Active Directory (AD) environment, hybrid cloud deployment, mobile computing, policy driven security, SSO, identity lifecycle management, and federation focusing on multiple protocols.

As a Technical Writer within Identity and Access Management (IAM) you will be responsible for delivering technical documents for the IAM Engineering team within Information Security. Within the role you will facilitate discussions with engineers and derive technical specifications which will then be transcribed to documents. This position relies heavily on skills such as project management, attention to detail, and the ability to organize complex technical concepts into clear, concise user guides for various audiences.  

Your key responsibilities 

Conduct technical deep-dive sessions with IAM Engineers and proactively engage subject matter resources to address any gaps between functionality and documentation  

Develop, write, and update clear, concise, structured user guides, quick start guides, FAQs, release notes, and other learning and help content for multiple products. 

Review, edit, and/or re-write material prepared by other writers on an ongoing basis to keep documentation up to date and to our current standard. 

Proactively identify and address documentation needs as well as ensure the quality, discoverability, and accuracy of the content you create and develop. 

Regularly communicate with product, support, engineering, and other teams about product features, status, and documentation needs. 

Organize materials and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, terminology, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. 

Contribute to tools and processes that make documentation more accessible, efficient, scalable, and collaborative. 

Work with other writers, editors, and engineers in multiple levels of the IAM organization to help each other learn and grow, and ultimately deliver the best possible product 

Skills and attributes for success 

Strong written and verbal communication skills 

Experience with IAM or other authentication and authorization technologies 

Familiarity with using and following a style guide 

Experience designing, planning, and delivering content solutions that meet the needs of technical business customers 

Experience working directly with engineering teams 

A proactive and open-minded attitude to resolving problems and delivering results 

 

To qualify for the role you must have 

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or equivalent work experience  

A minimum of 3 years of experience as a technical writer 

Previous experience in a global corporate IT environment  

 

Ideally, you’ll also have 

Experience in Information Security 

Experience as a Business Analyst 

Familiarity with ITIL would be advantageous
